Job Description
at MG2A in Manhattan, Illinois, United States Job Description The Design Drafter prepares technical exhibits, plans, and contract documents that support the improvement and construction of infrastructure and land development projects. Working closely with engineers and project managers, this role translates concepts, design criteria, survey data, and engineering markups into detailed construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The Design Drafter also prepares design solutions for project components and ensures drawings meet company standards, client requirements, and applicable codes. Travel includes local project sites in Illinois and occasional travel to Indiana. As a Design Drafter, you will contribute directly to infrastructure projects that strengthen communities and support municipal, utility, residential, commercial, and industrial development. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, plans, profiles, cross‑sections, and details for roadways, stormwater systems, utilities, commercial/industrial facilities, and land development projects Create and revise plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D based on engineer markups, survey data, and project specifications Perform technical design tasks including topographic surfaces, contours, profiles, details, quantity calculations, and design documentation Prepare design solutions for storm sewer sizing, stormwater detention, sanitary sewer profiles, and proposed final grades Ensure drawings comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal codes/regulations Perform quantity take‑offs and assist with basic design calculations or surface modeling Organize project files, drawing sets, and revision history according to company standards Support permit application packages and construction document preparation Review plans, mark revisions, and draft updates efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality Prepare as‑built drawings and project close‑out documentation Career Path and Advancement With demonstrated performance and continued professional development, this role offers advancement opportunities into MG2A's Project Lead and Project Engineer roles.
