Job Description:
We are seeking an Electronic CAD Designer to develop moderate to highly complex printed wiring board layouts using inputs from schematic designers and other engineering team members. This role supports new and modified high-density PWB designs and assists in the development of detailed layouts implementing a wide range of technologies. The designer will work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing disciplines to deliver complete, manufacturable designs using tools such as Siemens/Mentor Xpedition Enterprise, AutoCAD, Downstream CAM350, and SolidWorks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist electrical and packaging engineers with the design and layout of printed wiring boards (PWBs). Implement moderate to highly complex PWB designs. Assist engineers with constraint editing and entry. Interpret and understand design requirements. Demonstrate proficiency with design tools. Collaborate with PWB manufacturing engineers to define fabrication criteria. Apply design techniques including differential pairs, length matching, impedance control, blind and buried vias, and breakout of high-density, fine-pitch components. Follow established processes and work instructions. Provide input supporting generation of associated documentation. Demonstrate working knowledge of industry-standard practices for schematic and PWB design. Identify design issues and communicate them to the project team. Work with moderate to minimal oversight from senior technical personnel. Collaborate regularly with multiple senior technical staff members on design projects. Accept input from multiple members of the project team and act on it appropriately. Communicate project status and issues to management and the project team. Execute project tasks efficiently and drive layout work to completion.
Qualifications:
Associate degree or certificate from a two-year technical school in an applicable discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills. 10+ years of experience in PWB design or technical drafting with specific tool knowledge. Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and capture design details in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
Experience with bare die techniques such as wire bond, flip chip, and interposer design. Formal education in electronics or electrical circuit theory is a significant benefit. IPC Certification. Complementary domain knowledge or experience such as PWB assembly, PWB fabrication, hardware assembly, or hardware test. Active or recent past security clearance desired but not required.
