Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented, on-site CAD Drafter to support the design and documentation of modular and residential home projects. This position will assist with preparing and revising technical drawings, floor plans, elevations, details, and construction-document packages using CAD software. The ideal candidate has hands-on CAD experience—preferably with Autodesk products such as AutoCAD and/or Revit—and is comfortable learning new processes. Prior modular-home, residential-construction, or building-code experience is helpful but not required. We are looking for someone who learns quickly, takes direction well, asks good questions, communicates professionally, and develops into a reliable member of the design team. Responsibilities Create, revise, and organize residential and modular-home drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or related CAD/BIM software. Assist with floor plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, electrical layouts, life-safety information, and other construction-document content. Incorporate markups, customer selections, sales information, design changes, and review comments into drawings accurately and on time. Review redlined PDFs and other markups, understand requested changes, complete revisions accurately, and avoid unintentionally changing unrelated drawing information. Work with the sales team to clarify plan options, customer requests, project information, and drawing changes. Communicate professionally with team members and, when appropriate, customers regarding drawing questions, revisions, and project information. Maintain organized drawing files, PDFs, project folders, templates, title blocks, and revision records. Follow company file-naming standards, save documents in the correct project locations, work from current drawing versions, maintain issued PDFs, and keep project documentation organized. Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness, consistency, and obvious coordination issues before submitting them for internal review. Identify unclear, missing, or conflicting information and ask clarifying questions before proceeding rather than making assumptions. Learn and follow company drafting standards, modular-construction requirements, document-control procedures, and project workflows. Assist senior staff with permit, production, customer-approval, engineering, and installation drawing packages as needed. Build familiarity with applicable residential building-code concepts, local requirements, accessibility requirements where applicable, and modular-home construction practices. Support project deadlines by communicating early when questions, missing information, revisions, or workload may affect completion dates. Required qualifications One year of hands-on CAD experience preferred, including coursework, technical training, internship, freelance, portfolio, or professional experience. Strong AutoCAD fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly may substitute for direct residential or modular drafting experience. Working knowledge of AutoCAD or comparable CAD software; experience with Autodesk products is strongly preferred. Ability to create and edit basic 2D drawings, including plans, elevations, details, dimensions, notes, and sheet layouts. Basic understanding of drafting principles, including scale, dimensions, layers, lineweights, blocks, external references/Xrefs, layouts, viewports, plotting, and PDF output. Ability to read and follow markups, written instructions, sketches, and basic architectural or construction drawings. Basic plan-reading ability, including an understanding of floor plans, elevations, sections, dimensions, detail callouts, and schedules. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, consistent work. Ability to visualize and translate two-dimensional drawings into practical building conditions, including how plans, elevations, walls, roof lines, doors, windows, dimensions, and details relate in three dimensions. Comfortable working with feet, inches, fractions, scale, and dimensions. Strong organizational habits and the ability to maintain clean, consistent digital files and revision records. Must be comfortable identifying unclear information and asking questions before proceeding. Ability to accept constructive feedback, apply corrections consistently, and improve through review and training. Reliable work habits, a sense of deadline ownership, and the ability to communicate early when assistance or clarification is needed. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work professionally with sales staff, team members, and customers; listen carefully; ask clarifying questions; and communicate drawing-related information clearly. Preferred qualifications Experience with Autodesk Revit , AutoCAD Architecture, or other BIM software. Experience preparing residential construction documents, house plans, floor plans, elevations, or permit drawings. Familiarity with modular, manufactured, panelized, prefab, or conventional residential construction. Basic understanding of residential building-code concepts, including egress, smoke alarms, room dimensions, stairs, energy requirements, and plan-review documentation. Ability to read architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical drawings. Experience working from PDFs, redlines, Bluebeam markups, or digital document-management systems. Drafting certificate, associate degree, technical-school coursework, or equivalent practical experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with construction-industry terminology, customer selections, or project coordination. What success looks like The successful CAD Drafter will produce clear, accurate, and organized drawings; complete revisions without overlooking markups or introducing unrelated changes; maintain reliable file and revision control; and communicate promptly when questions or missing information affect a project. This person does not need to arrive as an expert in modular construction or residential codes. They do need to be technically capable, detail-oriented, organized, professional with customers and sales staff, receptive to feedback, and eager to learn the company's drafting standards, modular processes, and code-related requirements.
