Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Process Control Engineer I is an entry-level engineering position responsible for supporting the reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of process control and automation systems within ASARCO's mining and mineral processing operations. Working under the direction of experienced Process Control Engineers and Process Control leadership, the position supports DCS, SCADA, PLC/HMI, historian, instrumentation, and related OT systems. The Engineer I develops practical knowledge of plant processes and control systems while assisting with troubleshooting, system modifications, documentation, testing, commissioning, and improvement initiatives. The position partners with Operations, Metallurgy, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and IT/OT personnel to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. Support troubleshooting of PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, historian, OPC, control server, and instrumentation-related issues. Assist with PLC/HMI configuration and programming changes under appropriate technical review and Management of Change requirements. Monitor control-system health, communications, alarms, backups, and equipment status. Support maintenance of control-system documentation, drawings, tag databases, backups, and asset inventories. Assist with control-loop performance analysis and basic PID tuning. Analyze plant historian and process data to identify operational issues and improvement opportunities. Support instrumentation troubleshooting, calibration verification, and control-system integration. Participate in testing and commissioning of new control-system equipment and projects. Develop and maintain PI Vision or equivalent operational dashboards and reports. Support alarm rationalization and High-Performance HMI improvement activities. Participate in root-cause investigations involving process-control or instrumentation systems.
