Job Description

Position Summary NanoSolutions LLC is a growing advanced materials manufacturer specializing in high-precision ceramic, composite, and other engineered material components for the semiconductor capital equipment industry. We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented EDM Operator with hands-on experience in wire EDM and hole-pop EDM , preferably using Sodick machines. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining EDM equipment to produce high-precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and quality requirements. This is a hands-on manufacturing role requiring strong machining fundamentals, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts. Experience machining conductive ceramics or composite materials is a significant advantage, but candidates with strong conventional EDM experience and a willingness to learn new materials and processes are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities EDM Setup and Operation Set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot wire EDM and hole-pop EDM machines. Interpret engineering drawings, machining specifications, tolerances, and work instructions. Select appropriate machining parameters, electrodes, wire, tooling, fixtures, and consumables for different applications. Perform machine setups, workpiece alignment, datum establishment, and accurate part positioning. Optimize machining parameters to achieve required dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and process efficiency. Monitor machining operations, identify process abnormalities, and make appropriate adjustments. Perform routine machine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting. Precision Machining and Quality Control Machine complex, high-precision components while maintaining tight dimensional tolerances. Inspect completed parts using appropriate measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, pin gauges, and other precision metrology equipment. Verify critical dimensions and features against engineering drawings and inspection requirements. Identify machining defects, dimensional deviations, and potential quality issues; communicate concerns promptly. Maintain accurate production records, inspection results, and material traceability documentation. Follow established procedures for handling, protecting, and storing sensitive precision components. Manufacturing Process Development Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing personnel to develop and improve EDM machining processes. Support prototype development, new product introduction, and process qualification activities. Help troubleshoot challenging machining applications involving complex geometries, small holes, and tight tolerances. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, repeatability, and scrap reduction. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment. Required Qualifications Demonstrated hands-on experience operating wire EDM and hole-pop EDM equipment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Understanding of precision machining principles, workpiece fixturing, machine setup, and dimensional inspection. Ability to use precision measuring instruments and verify machined features independently. Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small manufacturing and engineering team. Commitment to quality, safety, equipment care, and accurate documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience machining electrically conductive ceramics, ceramic composites, or other advanced engineering materials. Familiarity with silicon carbide, reaction-bonded silicon carbide, metal-matrix composites, or similar materials. Experience machining parts for semiconductor equipment, precision optics, aerospace, or other high-technology industries. Experience with tight-tolerance components, intricate geometries, small-diameter holes, and thin-walled or delicate parts. Familiarity with GD&T, first-article inspection, process qualification, and quality management systems. Basic CNC programming or experience modifying EDM machining programs. Personal Attributes Meticulous and quality-focused, with pride in producing precision components. Resourceful and practical, with the ability to diagnose machining problems and identify solutions. Organized and dependable, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Adaptable and willing to learn new machining techniques and work with unfamiliar materials. Comfortable working in a small, growing company where flexibility, teamwork, and initiative are important.
