Job Description

Solution Spray Technologies is seeking a Process Engineer with strong experience in plasma/thermal spray coating technologies to join a small, fast‑paced startup developing advanced ceramic and thermal barrier coatings. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a hands‑on environment and can independently execute process development tasks with professionalism, initiative, and technical rigor. The selected candidate will work closely with the Lead Engineer to support coating deposition, process optimization, equipment operation, and production‑scale readiness. Key Responsibilities Develop, optimize, and execute plasma spray and thermal spray coating processes for ceramic and metallic systems. Operate and maintain thermal spray equipment, including plasma spray systems, powder feeders, and ancillary hardware. Establish and refine process parameters to achieve targeted coating microstructures, thicknesses, and performance metrics. Collaborate with materials engineers on feedstock preparation, coating characterization, and performance evaluation. Conduct process trials, document results, and contribute to technical reports and engineering documentation. Implement process controls, quality checks, and repeatability improvements suitable for a startup transitioning toward production. Take ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring timely and high‑quality execution with minimal oversight. Support development of new coating types and deposition strategies as company projects evolve. Required Qualifications B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Material Science (or closely related field). 2-7 years of hands‑on experience with plasma spray or thermal spray coating processes or recent graduate with thermal spray and/or SEM sample preparation experience. Strong understanding of thermal spray fundamentals, including heat transfer, particle behavior, and coating formation mechanisms. Experience with process optimization, parameter development, and troubleshooting of spray systems. Familiarity with coating microstructure-property relationships and quality control methods. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver reliable technical results. Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a small, collaborative startup environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with advanced feedstock technologies (e.g., SPS, SPPS, solution‑based precursors). Background in aerospace coatings, turbine components, or extreme‑environment materials. Experience with DOE methodologies and statistical analysis of process data. Prior work in government‑funded or export‑controlled R&D environments. Citizenship Requirement Due to project sponsorship and export‑controlled research activities, applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents . Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary ($100-130K depending on background and experience). Comprehensive benefits package. Opportunities for professional growth and involvement in cutting‑edge coatings and materials R&D. How to Apply Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and a summary of relevant thermal spray experience to employment@solutionspray.com
