Position Overview:
Guardian Manufacturing is seeking a highly experienced Controls Engineer III to provide technical leadership on complex, mission-critical automation projects across Space, Manufacturing, and Material Handling industries. This senior technical position requires broad controls expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to guide projects from system architecture through commissioning. You will lead complex controls scopes, resolve high-impact technical issues, review the work of other engineers, mentor team members, and serve as a trusted technical resource for customers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the architecture, design, development, programming, integration, and implementation of complex control systems and major project scopes. Establish control strategies; select and size PLC platforms, networks, instrumentation, motor-control equipment, safety devices, and related electrical components. Develop and review advanced PLC, HMI, SCADA, motion-control, data-acquisition, and industrial communication solutions. Lead design reviews, factory acceptance testing, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning for complex or high-risk systems. Review and approve electrical drawings, programs, bills of material, test procedures, operating descriptions, and other technical documentation. Serve as the senior technical interface with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams; communicate risks, options, and recommended solutions clearly. Provide technical direction and mentoring, improve engineering standards and reusable practices, support estimates and change control, and help ensure Safety, Quality, and Schedule objectives are achieved.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline; equivalent technical education and substantial relevant experience may be considered. Typically 7+ years of progressive controls engineering experience with demonstrated leadership of complex automation projects. Advanced PLC programming skills in ladder logic, function block, or structured text are required; experience with C++, Python, or Visual Basic is a plus. Advanced experience with
HMI/SCADA
development, industrial networks, system integration, and control-system architecture. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution, motor controls, VFDs/soft starters, servo and motion systems, instrumentation, safety circuits, and industrial communication protocols. Proven ability to solve complex technical problems, lead technical efforts, mentor engineers, manage risk, and communicate effectively with customers and leadership.
