Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to drive manufacturing improvements across injection molding operations. This hands-on, plant-floor role focuses on improving safety, product quality, production efficiency, equipment reliability, and cost performance. The ideal candidate has strong experience in injection molding processes, automation, continuous improvement, and project management. You will identify production inefficiencies, troubleshoot equipment and process issues, reduce scrap and cycle times, and lead engineering projects from concept through implementation and validation. This position requires a proactive problem-solver who can work directly with production teams, maintenance, tooling, quality, and external suppliers to deliver measurable improvements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field. 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing, process, automation, or continuous-improvement engineering experience, including direct support of injection molding or a comparable high-volume automated manufacturing operation. Strong knowledge of injection molding machines, molds, thermoplastic materials, dryers, grinders, chillers, temperature controllers, conveyors, robots, and auxiliary equipment. Proven experience improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, cycle times, equipment downtime, process capability, reliability, labor productivity, or manufacturing costs. Experience managing engineering and capital equipment projects, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, supplier coordination, risk management, implementation, validation, and project closeout. Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, with experience using methods such as 5 Why, Fishbone, A3, 8D, DMAIC, or Design of Experiments (DOE). Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability, and continuous-improvement methodologies. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical or pneumatic schematics, with experience developing or communicating mechanical concepts using CAD tools. Experience with automation systems, robotics, end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, sensors, vision systems, automated inspection, fixtures, and machine guarding. Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, industrial controls, machine interfaces, and robot programming. Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), validation, production trials, and equipment release to production. Scientific molding training or certification, such as RJG Master Molder, AIM Institute, Paulson, or equivalent, is a plus. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus. Experience with multi-cavity molds, hot runners, valve gates, engineering resins, and high-volume injection molding is preferred. Strong analytical, project management, technical writing, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or comparable data-analysis tools. Ability to work primarily on the manufacturing floor, follow all applicable safety procedures, and provide occasional off-shift or weekend support for installations, production trials, and critical manufacturing issues. Work Environment This is a hands-on manufacturing position, with approximately 60-75% of working time spent in production areas. The engineer will regularly work around operating injection molding machines, robots, conveyors, molds, and auxiliary equipment while following all applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements. Occasional overtime, weekend, or off-shift work may be required to support installations, production trials, equipment launches, or critical manufacturing issues.
