Process Engineer

Job Description

Bring your process engineering expertise to a hands-on, innovation-driven manufacturing environment in Emporia, KS, where flexible PVC flooring is produced at scale and continuous improvement matters. This Process Engineer opportunity focuses on developing consistent, repeatable blending and extrusion processes that reduce material cost and support growth. Qualifications and responsibilities for this Process Engineer position include: 3-5 years as a process or manufacturing engineer in a flexible PVC extrusion environment required; experience in flooring or other extruded flexible PVC products preferred. Hands-on experience with flexible PVC blending and compounding, including the function of plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers, pigments, and other additives. Experience processing flexible PVC in an extrusion environment, including setting up, running, and troubleshooting extrusion lines. Understanding of how durometer and melt index affect processing and finished product performance, and ability to blend materials with differing values to achieve consistent results. Develop, optimize, and document flexible PVC blending processes, including dry blending, mixing, additive dosing, and regrind incorporation. Establish and maintain extrusion process parameters, including temperature profiles, screw speed, pressure, die settings, line speed, and cooling. Lead process trials and capability studies; monitor process and quality data and apply statistical process control and root cause analysis to correct variation. Troubleshoot product defects and downtime (surging, gels, die buildup, thickness and color variation, degradation) to identify and correct material, process, and equipment problems.
Salary:
$80,000 - $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
