Job Description Position Summary:
Senior Machinery Control Systems Engineer supporting shipboard machinery control systems, with a strong waterfront focus on installation, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation. The role requires significant PLC-based control systems experience, shipyard/waterfront support, and hands-on work aboard Navy or Coast Guard vessels.
Requirements:
10 years of professional engineering experience 5-7 years testing and troubleshooting PLC-based machinery control systems 5-7 years of technical writing, including: Test procedures, installation and rip-out documentation Technical manuals. 3 years supporting machinery control systems aboard
USCGC POLAR STAR
(WAGB-10) 3 years as a waterfront representative at a civilian or military shipyard B.S. degree in engineering discipline
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary waterfront point of contact for ship checks, installations, testing, and troubleshooting. Provide shipboard and remote troubleshooting support during ship light-off, installation, and testing. Write and maintain test procedures, test plans, installation/rip-out procedures, maintenance procedures, and technical manuals. Perform software loads on Windows/Linux computers, PLC processors/cards, and circuit-level firmware. Identify drawing discrepancies, configuration issues, equipment deficiencies, and installation/operational interferences during ship checks. Develop shipboard installation, troubleshooting, and test-assessment plans. Produce status reports, metrics, and trip reports. Track failures in the System Problem/Improvement Report database. Provide shipboard operator and maintenance training on machinery control systems.
