Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking an middle-experienced Project Engineer to support general contractor operations on affordable multifamily residential projects. This role is responsible for technical document control, submittal management, RFI coordination, and maintaining accurate project records. The ideal candidate will have hands-on multifamily experience and strong skills in reading and interpreting construction documents. Key Responsibilities Review and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and civil drawings, specifications, and related documents to support field operations and project delivery. Prepare, assemble, and manage submittals (including product data, shop drawings, samples, and mock-ups) in accordance with project specifications and the approved submittal schedule. Generate, track, and close RFIs; coordinate responses with design teams, consultants, and internal stakeholders; maintain clear documentation of all RFI status and resolutions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project logs and records, including RFI logs, submittal logs, daily reports, meeting minutes, change order logs, and other document control systems. Support the project team with document distribution, version control, and coordination between the field, office, and design team. Assist with quantity take-offs, material tracking, and basic cost/schedule documentation as needed. Ensure compliance with project document control procedures, quality standards, and company protocols. Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues promptly. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered). 2+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or similar role with a general contractor, preferably on multifamily residential projects (apartments, mixed-use, affordable housing, or similar). Proven ability to read and interpret complex construction plans and specifications. Hands-on experience generating and managing submittals and RFIs. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated experience maintaining project logs, records, and document control systems. Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate effectively with design teams, subcontractors, and internal staff. Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with multifamily projects in California or similar regulatory environments. Familiarity with building codes, accessibility requirements, and typical multifamily systems (wood-frame, podium, etc.). OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training.
