Our project teams work closely with clients, architects, designers, subcontractors, and our in-house cabinet shop to deliver thoughtful, well-executed homes.

Napa, CA, with regular jobsite visits and occasional travel to East Bay projects Employment type: Full-time, salaried (exempt) Pay range: $75,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience Position Summary The Project Engineer is the technical backbone of our project teams. Working with Project Managers and Superintendents, this role reviews scopes and bids, resolves design questions, reviews submittals and shop drawings, prices changes, and helps keep schedules and budgets on track — managing multiple projects and priorities while supporting the team in delivering high-quality custom homes. This role is a direct path to Project Manager, with increasing ownership of budgets, client relationships, and full project delivery as you grow. What You'll Do Preconstruction & buyout Review and level subcontractor and supplier bids; confirm scope completeness, exclusions, and pricing before buyout. Draft subcontractor scopes of work and help negotiate scope with the Project Manager. Review plans and specifications for constructability, coordination issues, and missing information. Design coordination Draft RFIs and work with architects, engineers, and designers to resolve them. Review submittals and shop drawings — including cabinet and millwork drawings from our in-house shop — against the plans and specifications. Coordinate details between trades to prevent conflicts in the field. Changes & cost control Identify scope changes and potential cost or schedule impacts. Prepare change order pricing and backup for Project Manager review. Track job costs, committed costs, and budget versus actuals with the Project Manager. Schedule & field support Help build and maintain project schedules in Buildertrend with the Superintendent; analyze delays and their impact. Walk jobsites to verify field conditions, check installed work against the plans, and identify quality or constructability issues. Support the Superintendent with quality control, inspections, and punch list resolution. Meetings & closeout Lead or support technical discussions in project meetings, and follow through on open design and scope issues. Review closeout documents, including warranties, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals, for completeness and accuracy. Team support Manage multiple priorities across projects while supporting Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Coordinators. Learn and help improve Slarve's project management processes and software. What You Bring Two to four years of experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or in a similar technical role with a general contractor. Hands-on field or trade experience is highly valued. Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, subcontracts, and scopes of work. Working knowledge of residential building systems, construction methods, and sequencing. Experience with bid leveling, RFIs, submittals, and change order pricing. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while supporting the project team. Clear written and verbal communication with clients, design professionals, and subcontractors. Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Good judgment, curiosity, and a practical, team-first approach to solving problems. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for jobsite visits and occasional East Bay travel. Nice to Have Experience in high-end residential, custom home, or fine finish construction. Experience with Buildertrend. Experience reviewing cabinet, millwork, or finish carpentry shop drawings. Field experience in a trade or as an assistant superintendent. Degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
