PROJECT ENGINEER
About the Role Chameleon Engineering is looking for a hands-on Project Engineer to join our small, fast-moving manufacturing and fabrication team. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking a project from concept through fabrication—creating SolidWorks models and shop drawings, developing bills of materials, coordinating schedules and resources, solving design and production issues, and working directly with the people building the product. We are a niche wireless telecom manufacturing company where engineers are expected to be practical, organized, collaborative, and willing to get involved wherever necessary to keep a project moving. If you enjoy designing in SolidWorks, organizing complex projects, building schedules and action-item lists, improving workflows, and seeing your designs become real hardware, this may be a great fit. What You'll Do The Project Engineer will have two primary responsibilities: 1. Engineering and Design Develop and maintain the engineering documentation required to fabricate and manufacture our products. 2. Project Coordination Coordinate people, materials, schedules, and priorities to help ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time. Engineering & Design Responsibilities Create and modify 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks Produce fabrication drawings, shop drawing packages, and supporting manufacturing documentation. Perform basic mechanical engineering calculations and design evaluations. Identify, clarify, and resolve design and fabrication issues. Support the development of new mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, and machinery. Develop and maintain bills of materials, product data sheets, and related technical documentation. Assist with CAM programming using Fusion 360 or similar software. Review designs for manufacturability, fit, function, and fabrication efficiency. Ensure engineering work is completed in accordance with applicable company quality standards. Project & Production Responsibilities Develop project schedules, task lists, milestones, and critical-path activities. Track project progress and communicate schedule, resource, or technical concerns before they affect delivery. Coordinate with management and production personnel to allocate labor, equipment, and other resources. Generate work orders, purchase orders, and supporting production documentation. Assist with estimating and planning fabrication work. Coordinate procurement and availability of raw materials and purchased components. Help maintain the tools, equipment, vehicles, and resources necessary to keep production operating efficiently. Participate in project and production meetings and help drive action items to completion. Identify workflow bottlenecks and opportunities to improve efficiency. Work directly with fabrication personnel to resolve issues as they arise. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks . Demonstrated SolidWorks proficiency through professional experience, internships, or substantial project work Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and construction plans. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Sound mechanical aptitude and understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering concepts. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. High attention to detail. Ability to work independently, recognize what needs to be done, and take ownership of completing it. Preferred Experience with CAM software such as Fusion 360. Experience in fabrication or manufacturing environments. Familiarity with welding, machining, mechanical assembly, carpentry, or composite manufacturing. Experience developing project schedules, Gantt charts, workflow maps, or critical-path schedules. Experience with bills of materials, purchasing, estimating, or production planning. Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and mechanical system design. What We're Looking For Technical ability matters, but so does how you work with others. We are looking for someone who: Takes ownership of their work. Communicates openly and professionally. Works well as part of a small team. Is willing to be hands-on when necessary. Approaches problems with curiosity and practical judgment. Can move between engineering detail and overall project priorities. Maintains a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
