BIW Structural CAE Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a BIW Structural CAE Engineer to join our technical design development team in Auburn Hills, MI. In this role, you will lead system and component-level Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations for Body-in-White (BIW) structures. Working across early concept phases through detail design, you will perform virtual evaluations—including NVH, durability, and crash analysis—to generate actionable design recommendations and drive structural performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities Virtual Modeling & Simulation:
Build Rapid Concept Design (RCD) models and finite element models (FEM) to evaluate NVH, basic durability, and crush performance; perform linear and non-linear FEA to compute sectional forces, stress, strain, and modal responses.
Benchmarking & Optimization:
Conduct competitive architecture and component benchmarking for BIW systems; utilize topology optimization techniques to inform structural efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with advanced design teams, internal CAE groups, and external suppliers to track design progress, implement standard methodologies, and ensure timely model delivery.
Physical-to-Virtual Correlation:
Work closely with test engineering teams to validate virtual simulation results against physical test data to continuously improve model accuracy.
Methodology Development:
Stay aligned with automotive industry advancements in simulation tools and RCD methodologies to expand internal technical capabilities.
Tracking & Reporting:
Document analysis results, track BIW design iterations, and present technical summaries to engineering leadership when required.
