Job Title:

Civil Engineer EIT Job Description This role offers an excellent opportunity for a civil engineer in training (EIT) with 25 years of experience in land development and stormwater design to contribute to a wide range of local projects. You will support the design of infrastructure and site development projects, gain hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and collaborate closely with engineering, CAD, and survey professionals. The position provides a clear career path into project management and eventual ownership for motivated and high-performing team members. Responsibilities Design roadways, site, grading, and utility plans under the supervision of lead engineers. Prepare designs for sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and waterline systems for land development projects. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to support stormwater and drainage design. Develop land disturbance and related civil engineering designs in accordance with applicable standards. Prepare detailed construction plans and specifications for civil infrastructure and site development projects. Perform design computations and engineering calculations to support project deliverables. Coordinate regularly with internal team members and external entities, including reviewing authorities and stakeholders. Prepare and review storm drainage reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations. Review construction plans for accuracy, constructability, and consistency with project requirements. Summarize quantities and develop earthwork calculations to support cost estimates and construction planning. Estimate construction costs for proposed projects using quantities, unit prices, and project scope. Conduct field investigations and observations to gather data, verify existing conditions, and support design decisions. Provide construction administration services, including responding to contractor questions and reviewing submittals as needed. Engage in extensive communication with team members and outside authorities to clarify design intent and resolve issues. Complete related duties as assigned to support project success and meet deadlines and budgets. Essential Skills Civil engineering degree from an accredited university. 25 years of engineering experience in land development. Experience with stormwater design, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Hands-on experience in land development, site development, grading, and civil site design. Ability to design sanitary sewer, storm sewer, waterlines, and related civil infrastructure. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong technical and analytical skills for design computations and engineering calculations. Strong written communication skills for reports, documentation, and correspondence. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Proficiency or strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D. EIT (Engineer in Training) status or equivalent civil EIT experience. Self-starter who is motivated to meet deadlines and budgets. Ability to clearly communicate design intentions to team members and external stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience preparing construction plans and specifications for civil and site development projects. Experience preparing and reviewing storm drainage reports. Experience summarizing quantities, performing earthwork calculations, and estimating construction costs. Experience providing construction administration services and conducting field investigations. Familiarity with coordination with city boards and participation in public or board meetings as needed. Interest in a career path leading to project management and potential ownership opportunities. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Motivation to grow professionally within a collaborative engineering environment. Work Environment This is an in-office position working closely with fellow engineering partners, CAD professionals, and survey staff on local projects. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening commitments for city board meetings as needed. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
