Job Description
Job description JPS Construction and Design is a design and build company located in Middletown, RI. We are looking for a full-time Lead Residential Architectural Designer to join our
IN-HOUSE
design team. The ideal candidate must have at least eigth years of experience working on custom residential wood frame architecture. This individual must be well rounded in all aspects of project delivery including design and construction documents. Experience with ArchiCAD is preferred. Candidate MUST be able to work in our Middletown, RI office every weekday, REMOTE
WORK IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS POSITION.
The Lead Designer is responsible for creating high-quality design and construction documents for a wide variety of residential and commercial projects. This role involves developing conceptual and detailed designs, producing technical drawings, assisting in client presentations, and coordinating with consultants and construction teams to ensure design intent is carried through to completion. The Lead Designer supports both creative and technical aspects of the design process, from custom cabinetry and bathroom renovations to custom new construction homes.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Drafting :
Measure and document existing conditions and as-built construction. Assist in developing conceptual, schematic, and design development documents. Produce detailed construction drawings and coordinate with engineers, consultants, and the design team. Prepare 3D models, renderings, diagrams, and presentation materials as needed. Research materials, systems, and codes for use in architectural solutions. Support permitting and approval processes with local jurisdictions. Attend local zoning and Historic District Commission (HDC) board meetings as needed.
Client & Project Coordination:
Participate in client presentations, design meetings, and site visits. Meet with clients to discuss design options, material selections, and finishes. Prepare design estimates and contracts with detailed descriptions according to company procedures. Specify products including siding, roofing, trim, windows, cabinetry, flooring, and other architectural elements. Collaborate with construction teams to ensure design intent is accurately executed in the field. Correspond with subcontractors, Project Managers, interior designers, and consultants throughout all project phases.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Architecture, Design, or related field, and at least 8 years of relevant design experience. Architecture license or working towards license preferred. Strong ability to read, create, and interpret construction documents. Proficient with wood-frame construction methods, building codes, zoning, and historic guidelines. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate professionally. Supervisory skills and experience. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop, ArchiCAD, MS Office and Apple software, including MacOS, Numbers, and Pages.
