Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Nuclear Engineer to join a leading nuclear and energy company, in its Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department. CDE serves as the Design Authority for a fleet of six nuclear power stations and is responsible for executing a strategic engineering portfolio that addresses equipment obsolescence, supports risk-informed initiatives, and drives fleet-wide modernization. This role offers the opportunity to lead civil and structural design engineering initiatives that directly impact the safety, regulatory compliance, and reliability of nuclear operations. The position requires advanced technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to coordinate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders and disciplines.
Primary Responsibilities Design Change Implementation :
Develop engineering change packages, including the scope, technical basis, installation requirements, and testing protocols for civil/structural modifications.
Engineering changes may involve:
Structural analysis of steel and concrete systems Stress analysis and mechanical integrity evaluations Seismic and dynamic analysis for safety-related structures and components Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for load-bearing structures
Technical Problem Solving :
Research and resolve complex engineering and design issues. Evaluate multiple solution paths, perform trade-off studies, and present clear recommendations aligned with safety and performance goals.
Engineering Documentation :
Prepare or revise technical specifications, procurement documents, and design requirements Develop and validate complex engineering calculations associated with system or structural modifications Author and support licensing evaluations, 10 CFR 50.59 screenings, and regulatory submittals related to design changes
Plant Modification Support :
Review work orders and provide engineering oversight for field activities Participate in design reviews and walkdowns to ensure compliance with design intent Coordinate with project management, field engineering, and construction teams for seamless modification execution
Regulatory and Licensing Impact :
Update site-specific design basis documents, drawings, and regulated technical documentation impacted by engineering changes Ensure all design activities conform to nuclear regulatory standards and the company's rigorous configuration control processes Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (Master's in Engineering may substitute for the BS) At least 1 year of relevant nuclear engineering experience At least 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with Professional Engineer (PE) licensure Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe Expertise in: Structural analysis using software tools (e.g., ANSYS , GTStrudl , or equivalent) Seismic/dynamic analysis methodologies for nuclear facilities Stress analysis using SuperPipe , AutoPIPE , or
Caesar II ASME Codes:
Section
III , B31.1
, Section IX , Section XI AISC Steel Design Codes ( ASD , LRFD ), and ACI Concrete Design Codes Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and 3D modeling (e.g., SolidWorks or similar) In-depth understanding of nuclear configuration control processes and plant design modification procedures Knowledge of utility-industry engineering standards and nuclear safety design practices Additional Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain Unescorted Access to a nuclear site (includes background check and drug screening) Occasional fieldwork required to support installation, testing, and walkdowns; ability to wear all necessary PPE (hard hat, fall protection, etc.) Willingness to work extended hours as needed based on project demands Working Environment This position is primarily based in an office environment but requires regular interaction with plant systems and structures. Field support activities include on-site assessments, construction oversight, and hands-on involvement during modification installations. Must be comfortable working in a regulated nuclear plant setting, where safety, compliance, and quality are paramount.
