Job Description

Lightworks Fiber & Consulting is hiring Traveling Fiber Optic Technicians to join our growing field team. No fiber experience? Your skills may transfer better than you think. We are looking for dependable, mechanically inclined people who are interested in learning a skilled trade and building a career in telecommunications, as well as experienced Fiber Optic Technicians ready for their next opportunity. If you have experience in manufacturing, equipment operation, mechanical or maintenance work, construction, utilities, low-voltage work, underground construction, or other hands-on outdoor or industrial work, we encourage you to apply. Fiber optic experience is a plus, but not required for all openings. What You'll Do Depending on your experience and assignment, you may: Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic cable and telecommunications networks Assist with fiber testing, troubleshooting, splicing, and service restoration Learn to use specialized fiber optic testing equipment and tools Assist with fiber construction, cable installation, network builds, and maintenance Read and interpret maps, construction drawings, prints, schematics, and project plans Identify fiber routes, connections, network components, and project locations Complete required documentation, test results, reports, and project updates Safely operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment Work outdoors in varying terrain, temperatures, and weather conditions Travel to project locations throughout the United States Participate in emergency outage and restoration work as needed Follow company safety policies, customer requirements, and project specifications What We're Looking For Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable driving record Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays and regular air travel Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds Comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors Willingness to work flexible schedules, which may include overtime, nights, weekends, and emergency response Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Dependability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew Basic computer, tablet, and smartphone skills Ability to distinguish colors and read detailed labels, maps, prints, and documentation Ability to meet applicable pre-employment requirements Experience That Transfers Well We encourage you to apply if your background includes: Sawmill, lumber, or wood products operations Manufacturing or production Industrial or equipment maintenance Construction or general labor Heavy equipment or machinery Utility or underground construction Outdoor field work Mechanical or technical trades Cable installation or low-voltage work Telecommunications or broadband Fiber optic construction, installation, testing, or maintenance Don't have fiber experience? If you're reliable, mechanically inclined, comfortable working with tools, willing to travel, and ready to learn, we may be able to teach you the fiber-specific skills you need. Experienced Fiber Optic Technicians are also encouraged to apply, particularly candidates with experience in fiber construction, installation, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and outage restoration. Travel & Schedule This is primarily a traveling field position, although local assignments may be available based on operational needs. Employees may work at project locations throughout the United States. Project locations, schedules, rotations, and duration vary based on customer and business needs.
