Job Description

Description:
The Electrical/Automation-Focused Maintenance Technician ensures production equipment operates safely and efficiently by combining mechanical repair with advanced electrical troubleshooting. This role builds on Mechanical Technician duties and expands into diagnostics, wiring, control systems, and early-stage automation. The technician is responsible for resolving mechanical and electrical issues, reducing downtime, and supporting capital improvements tied to automation and controls. This higher-responsibility role offers greater ownership of equipment, performance and reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mechanical Responsibilities Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on presses and equipment. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, gearboxes, bearings, and alignment issues. Assist with die setups and mechanical changeovers. Document repairs and communicate findings to the Maintenance Manager. Electrical/Automation Responsibilities Diagnose and repair electrical issues on presses, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems. Install and maintain control wiring, sensors, switches, photo eyes, and safety interlocks. Perform lockout/tagout procedures per safety protocols. Use multimeters and diagnostic tools to identify power or signal issues. Support servo system diagnostics and assist with PLC troubleshooting prep. Read and interpret schematics, ladder diagrams, and control panel layouts. Interface with external electricians and automation vendors. Help maintain documentation for control panels, wiring layouts, and I/O assignments.
KPI's:
Work Order Completion Rate
  • % of assigned work orders completed within designated timeframes. PM Completion Rate
  • % of preventive maintenance tasks completed on schedule. Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
  • Average time required to complete mechanical repairs. Repeat Issues Rate
  • Frequency of recurring mechanical issues on the same equipment. Safety Compliance
  • Consistent use of PPE, adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, and following safe work practices.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. 4+ years of industrial maintenance experience, including strong electrical troubleshooting. Solid mechanical repair skills (presses, motors, gearboxes, etc.). Strong understanding of control systems, low-voltage wiring, and safety devices. Ability to read and interpret both electrical and mechanical drawings. Familiarity with or interest in PLCs, servo drives, and automation integration. Experience using diagnostic tools (multimeter, megger, etc.). High attention to detail, safety, and equipment cleanliness.
