We are looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to join our team and become a key part of our Technical Service organization. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, solving problems in the field, working directly with customers, and seeing a project through to completion. The ideal candidate has strong electrical troubleshooting skills , mechanical aptitude, and experience working with automated industrial equipment. You should be comfortable reading electrical schematics, using a multimeter to diagnose problems, troubleshooting control panels, and working independently at customer facilities. If you enjoy figuring out why a machine isn't working and determining how to get it running again , this could be a great opportunity for you. Position Overview As a Field Service Technician, you will install, troubleshoot, repair, modify, maintain, and support automated packaging and end-of-line equipment at customer locations. You will work with a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation systems and will be expected to identify the root cause of equipment failures rather than simply replacing components. This position requires strong technical skills, excellent communication, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while keeping the Technical Service team informed of job progress. Key Responsibilities Troubleshooting & Diagnostics Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation-related problems on packaging and material-handling equipment. Read, interpret, and trace electrical schematics to identify the root cause of electrical failures. Troubleshoot control panels, motors, sensors, relays, contactors, PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, safety circuits, fuses, circuit breakers, and other electrical components. Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to test electrical circuits and components. Troubleshoot PLC inputs and outputs, sensors, interlocks, and machine sequences. Identify the root cause of recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Minimize customer downtime by diagnosing problems efficiently and developing practical repair solutions. Installation & Equipment Support Install, commission, modify, and start up automated packaging equipment. Perform mechanical and electrical repairs and equipment modifications. Assist with machine rebuilds, refurbishing, upgrades, and equipment improvements. Work with OEM equipment manufacturers and suppliers when additional technical support is required. Identify required replacement parts and communicate parts requirements to the appropriate internal teams. Customer Training & Support Train customers and internal personnel on equipment operation, setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs. Explain technical issues and recommended solutions clearly to customers. Maintain professional relationships with customers, distributors, OEMs, and suppliers. Represent Best Packaging professionally at all customer locations. Documentation & Communication Complete detailed service reports using cloud-based service software. Document work performed, equipment conditions, parts used, recommendations, and outstanding issues. Create clear punch lists identifying incomplete work and items requiring follow-up. Communicate job status, delays, parts requirements, and technical challenges to the Technical Service office. Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the Technical Service Manager when appropriate. Provide accurate information to Customer Service, Parts, Sales, and other internal departments. In-House Support Support the Best Packaging team with equipment repairs, testing, troubleshooting, and refurbishing when field service work is not required. Assist with machine preparation, testing, and commissioning prior to customer delivery or installation. Continuous Learning Stay current with packaging automation technologies, controls, electrical systems, and equipment from various manufacturers. Develop knowledge of new OEM equipment, controls platforms, and emerging automation technologies. Participate in training and professional development opportunities. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is technically strong, mechanically capable, dependable, and comfortable working independently.
The successful candidate will:
Enjoy troubleshooting and solving problems. Be comfortable working on unfamiliar equipment and figuring out how it operates. Be able to methodically diagnose problems rather than relying on guesswork. Take ownership of customer issues from diagnosis through resolution. Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing Best Packaging. Be organized and thorough with service documentation. Be willing to travel and work in different customer environments. Understand that customer service is an important part of being a successful field technician. Required Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, electrical/industrial automation training, or college coursework is a plus. Experience Minimum 3 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial automation, packaging, or manufacturing equipment. Packaging equipment experience strongly preferred. Minimum 3 years of electrical troubleshooting experience . Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics. Experience working with industrial control panels and automation systems.
