Non-Exempt Position Summary The Robotic Laser Welder is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining robotic laser welding systems to produce high-quality weldments in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality standards. This role requires a blend of technical mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Set up and program robotic laser welding cells for new and repeat jobs, including fixture setup, seam tracking, and parameter adjustments (power, speed, focal position, shielding gas). Load and unload parts, ensuring correct placement and fixturing prior to weld cycle initiation. Monitor weld quality in real time and perform in-process inspections using calipers, gauges, and visual inspection techniques. Interpret and work from engineering drawings, routers, and work instructions to meet dimensional and quality requirements. Perform routine preventive maintenance on laser welding equipment, including lens cleaning, nozzle replacement, and beam alignment checks. Identify and troubleshoot weld defects (porosity, cracking, incomplete fusion, distortion) and make corrective adjustments. Document production quantities, non-conformances, and downtime in the shop management system. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with all safety protocols and PPE requirements. Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in first article runs and assist with process development for new part programs. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience operating robots, manufacturing machines, robotic welding, or laser processing equipment in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols. Familiarity with laser safety standards (ANSI Z136.1) and required PPE usage. Basic computer skills for data entry and system navigation. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Preferred Qualifications Experience with robotic welding platforms (FANUC, KUKA, ABB, or similar). Knowledge of laser welding processes for stainless steel, aluminum, or exotic alloys. Experience in a job shop or high-mix, low-volume production environment. Familiarity with systems for job tracking and documentation. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 75 lbs unassisted. Must be able to wear required PPE including laser safety eyewear, gloves, and protective clothing. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to light, heat, noise, and fumes within safety-controlled limits.
