Gate Automation & Service Technician Ferguson Fabrication — Grants Pass, OR Ferguson Fabrication is a family-owned steel fabrication and powder coating business serving customers for over 30 years. We are seeking a Gate Automation & Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair automated gates and access-control systems. Previous gate experience is preferred, but candidates with service and troubleshooting experience in related trades are encouraged to apply. Relevant backgrounds include garage-door service, electrical or low-voltage systems, HVAC, irrigation controls, alarm and security systems, access control, industrial maintenance, and automotive or equipment repair. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, practical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to take ownership of service calls after training. Gate-specific training will be provided based on experience. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-system problems in automated gates. Install and maintain gate operators, keypads, remotes, intercoms, and safety devices. Program and configure gate automation and access-control equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and verify proper gate and safety-device operation. Assist with swing and sliding gate installations and adjustments. Communicate professionally with customers and explain system operation and maintenance. Record service findings, repairs completed, parts used, and necessary follow-up. Work with the fabrication and installation team to complete field projects. Maintain safe, organized work areas and follow company safety procedures. Perform electrical work within the authorized scope of the position and coordinate with licensed electricians when needed. Required Qualifications Hands-on experience servicing or troubleshooting mechanical or electrical equipment. Ability to use a multimeter and common hand and power tools. Ability to follow technical instructions and read wiring diagrams or schematics. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently after training and seek assistance when needed. Dependability, professional communication, and good customer-service skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer job sites. Ability to perform the essential duties of outdoor field work, with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Experience installing or servicing automated gates or garage-door openers. Familiarity with LiftMaster, myQ, US Automatic, or DoorKing systems. Experience with low-voltage wiring, access control, motors, sensors, and control boards. Familiarity with gate safety devices, including photo eyes and sensing edges. Welding, fabrication, or mechanical installation experience. Forklift, excavator, or crane-truck experience. Relevant gate-industry training or certifications. Work Environment This position involves customer-site service calls, installation work, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
