Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Job Description

Position Summary:
The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and instrumentation equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the paper mill. This role supports production by minimizing downtime and optimizing equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Systems:
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment including motors, drives, MCCs, transformers, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults using diagnostic tools and schematics.
Instrumentation & Controls:
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation devices such as pressure, flow, level, and temperature sensors.
  • Work with PLCs, DCS, and other control systems for programming, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure accurate data collection and control for process optimization.
Basic IT & Systems Support:
  • Provide basic IT support for mill operations systems including HMIs, operator workstations, and industrial PCs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network connectivity issues related to PLCs, control systems, and instrumentation devices.
  • Coordinate with corporate or site IT teams for hardware replacements, software updates, and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of control system hardware, network layouts, and system configurations.
Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow all mill safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Update electrical and instrumentation drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  • Record maintenance activities in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to support production goals.
  • Provide technical guidance during shutdowns and major repairs.
Work Schedule:
  • Day Shift Position
  • Requires occasional weekend work, emergency call-ins, some 2nd shift coverage, and overtime as needed to support mill operations and maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related field.
Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical and instrumentation maintenance (preferably in pulp and paper or similar heavy industry).
Pay:
From $38.73 per hour
