$27.84 - $36.41 per hour Overview Beyond Horizons (BNH) is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of the infrastructure required to test flight, defense, and aerospace systems in the ground test facilities at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, Tennessee. This infrastructure includes equipment such as electric motors, compressors, hydraulic systems, refrigeration systems, heaters, dryers, power systems, measurement and data acquisition systems, control systems, and more. We do not design or conduct analysis of the vehicles; we design, operate, and maintain the systems which enable ground test of models and subassemblies to provide our customers with the data they need to make decisions on design and flightworthiness. Open external candidates who are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university engineering or technical degree program noted in the qualifications. Job Summary The Beyond Horizons internship program offers a 12-week full-time summer opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in various engineering and computer science related disciplines. As part of the internship, you are paired with experienced engineers and scientists who serve as your mentor(s) in completing real engineering or technical work gaining valuable experience in your field of study while contributing to Air Force and contractor missions. You will be required to present a briefing to management demonstrating what you learned and accomplished throughout the summer. Our internship is structured such that you are assigned multiple tasks to complete throughout the summer to provide exposure to the variety of types of work assignments available here at AEDC. These are real engineering/technical assignments that need to be completed, not busy work to keep you occupied. Test Operations Engineers also provide system engineer capabilities as part of a team of mechanical and electrical engineers whose job is to oversee installation, operation, sustainment, and troubleshooting of their assigned test cell equipment and systems. Some examples of test systems in various facilities include thrust determination and force measurement systems, fuel systems, icing systems, combustors, nozzles, water systems, gaseous nitrogen systems, hydraulic systems, lubrication oil systems, high pressure air systems, service air systems, liquid nitrogen systems, various sensors, etc. that are needed to reliably provide test data to our customers. Basic Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines:

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Mechatronics Engineering

Computer Engineering

Computer Science or Software Engineering (hard programmers, business systems, data science, Power Platform developers, or machine learning interests; cybersecurity students need to have Security+)

Industrial Engineering

Aerospace Engineering

At least sophomore status (45 credit hours) completed by May 2027

Minimum GPA of 2.75

Ability to work 40 hours each week for 12 weeks from May to August. This is a full-time temporary position, so no vacation is accrued. We encourage students to take personal vacations before reporting and between the term ending and their return to school.

Must have the ability to travel between multiple facilities and buildings within the industrial complex to support test operations.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network

Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC Preferred Qualifications Commitment to working 40 hours each week for the duration of the internship

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
