Management Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Motor Shop Foreman to lead the day-to-day operations of our industrial electric motor repair shop. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong technical expertise in AC and DC motor repair and rewinding , including experience with low- and medium-voltage motors . The ideal candidate is an experienced motor shop professional who can effectively manage and develop a team while remaining actively involved in troubleshooting, winding, repair, testing, and quality control. Key ResponsibilitiesShop Leadership & Management Manage and supervise motor shop technicians, winders, mechanics, and other shop personnel. Assign and prioritize daily work based on customer needs, workload, and promised completion dates. Ensure jobs move efficiently through evaluation, teardown, repair, rewind, assembly, testing, and final inspection. Hold employees accountable for quality, productivity, safety, and attendance. Train and mentor less-experienced technicians and winders. Identify technical or production issues and take ownership of resolving them. Coordinate with sales, management, and other departments regarding repair scope, job status, and technical questions. Maintain a clean, organized, productive, and safe shop environment. Motor Repair & Rewinding Perform and oversee complete AC and DC motor rewinds . Work with low-voltage and medium-voltage motors . Accurately obtain and document winding data before stripping. Determine coil specifications, wire size, turns, connections, insulation requirements, and winding configuration. Wind and install stator coils and DC armatures/fields as applicable. Perform proper insulation, lacing, blocking, bracing, dipping/VPI processes, and curing. Diagnose winding failures, shorts, grounds, open circuits, and other electrical problems. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical motor failures and determine appropriate repair procedures. Inspect shafts, bearing fits, housings, cores, rotors, commutators, and other components for damage or wear. Perform or oversee bearing replacement, machining coordination, balancing, assembly, and alignment. Read and interpret motor nameplates, winding diagrams, electrical drawings, and technical specifications. Testing & Quality Control Ensure repaired motors meet required electrical and mechanical specifications before release.

Perform and/or oversee testing including:

Insulation resistance Hi-Pot testing Surge comparison testing Winding resistance Growler testing when applicable No-load/run testing Vibration testing Dynamic balancing Review completed work for workmanship and accuracy. Ensure proper repair documentation is completed throughout the job. Assist with failure analysis and determining root causes of motor failures. Required Qualifications 5+ years of industrial electric motor repair/rewinding experience ; 10+ years preferred. Demonstrated ability to independently perform complete AC motor rewinds . Demonstrated experience repairing and rewinding DC motors , including armatures and field coils. Experience working with medium-voltage motors required. Strong knowledge of electric motor construction, winding theory, insulation systems, and repair practices. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills. Experience with industrial motor testing equipment. Ability to read winding diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical documentation. Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Technician, Shop Supervisor, or similar leadership position strongly preferred. Ability to effectively manage, train, and hold a team accountable. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial repair environment and manage multiple priority jobs simultaneously. Preferred Experience Experience with the following is highly desirable: Large horsepower AC motors DC motors and generators Medium-voltage motors Form-coil winding Random winding Armature winding VPI insulation systems Dynamic balancing Motor machining and mechanical repair Explosion-proof motors EASA repair practices Root-cause/failure analysis Preferred Qualifications Experience with large horsepower AC motors, DC motors/generators, medium-voltage motors, form-coil and random winding, armature winding, VPI insulation systems, dynamic balancing, explosion-proof motors, EASA repair practices, and failure analysis. Previous experience leading and developing a diverse team of motor repair technicians. Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. What We Are Looking For This position requires more than a supervisor. We are looking for a working Motor Shop Foreman who can lead from the floor. The right candidate should be able to take a motor from initial evaluation through final testing , troubleshoot difficult failures, perform complex rewinds when necessary, teach technicians the correct repair procedures, and ensure the entire team produces consistent, high-quality work. The Motor Shop Foreman will play a key role in maintaining repair quality, improving shop efficiency, developing technicians, and ensuring our customers receive dependable repairs with industry-leading turnaround times.

Pay:

$90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
