This position works across the full equipment lifecycle—from helping the sales team scope controls and system requirements, through production and commissioning, to quality control and after-sale technical support. Our equipment is primarily manufactured with our overseas production partners and then received at our facility in Payson, Utah for inspection, testing, programming updates, and final preparation before delivery. You will work directly with our sales, engineering, production, and service teams, as well as customers and overseas manufacturing partners. Responsibilities Meet with customers and work with the sales team to define controls, electrical, automation, safety, and system requirements for new equipment. Provide technical support and guidance to our overseas production team throughout the manufacturing process. Perform incoming quality control, functional testing, safety-system verification, and non-conformance testing when equipment arrives at our Payson, UT facility. Review, modify, troubleshoot, and improve PLC and HMI programs as needed. Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley, Delta, FATEK, and AutomationDirect Productivity-series PLCs used across our equipment. Configure and optimize HMI interfaces for operator usability, machine control, diagnostics, recipes, and real-time monitoring. Install, configure, and troubleshoot industrial machine-safety systems. We primarily use Keyence light curtains, area safety scanners, and GC-1000 Series safety controllers on our equipment. Integrate safety devices and controls into PLC-based machine control systems and verify proper operation during testing and commissioning. Install, troubleshoot, and repair PLCs, HMIs, industrial controls, and related automation systems. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and similar protocols. Diagnose automation, controls, safety, and industrial electrical issues and perform root cause analysis when failures occur. Work with mechanical and electrical teams to interpret schematics, drawings, and system requirements for new equipment and upgrades. Assist with the integration and programming of industrial robotics, including FANUC robotic systems, vision systems, and automated material handling. Develop and maintain technical documentation, electrical schematics, drawings, and equipment records using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software. Support equipment improvements focused on reliability, cycle time, operator usability, safety, and overall equipment effectiveness. Assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and after-sale technical support when controls-related issues arise. Travel to customer facilities approximately once per quarter for equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operator training. Most trips are approximately 1-3 days on-site. Requirements Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, controls, or automation engineering role. Strong working knowledge of PLC programming, installation, troubleshooting, and diagnostics, particularly ladder logic. Experience with one or more of the PLC platforms we regularly use: Allen-Bradley, Delta, FATEK, and AutomationDirect Productivity. Experience configuring and troubleshooting HMI systems. Working knowledge of industrial machine-safety systems, including safety controllers, light curtains, area scanners, interlocks, E-stops, and related safety devices. Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and networks such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus. Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills involving industrial machinery and controls. Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, engineers, technicians, sales personnel, and overseas manufacturing partners. Ability to travel periodically for commissioning, installation, and technical support. Preferred Experience Allen-Bradley PLC experience is particularly valuable , including programming and troubleshooting within the Rockwell Automation ecosystem. Experience with Delta, FATEK, or AutomationDirect Productivity PLCs is also beneficial, but experience with every platform is not required. We are primarily looking for someone with strong PLC fundamentals who is comfortable learning and working across multiple control platforms. Experience with Keyence machine-safety products, particularly GC-1000 Series safety controllers, light curtains, and area safety scanners , is a strong plus. Experience with FANUC or similar industrial robotics, machine vision, servo systems, hydraulic machinery, automated material handling, or custom industrial equipment is also beneficial. Growth Opportunity This position has meaningful long-term growth potential as we expand our service and technical support footprint. Over the next several years, we plan to establish additional service centers to provide regional installation, commissioning, maintenance, and technical support for our customers. Our planned expansion begins with continued growth in Utah , followed by a service presence in Tennessee , and eventually the Michigan/Ohio region . As these locations are established, we expect to need experienced technical personnel who can step into service center management and regional leadership roles . Someone who develops a strong understanding of our equipment, controls standards, customers, and service processes will have an opportunity to be considered for these positions as the company expands. This is not a requirement of the position—someone can build a strong technical career with us without pursuing management—but the opportunity is there for someone interested in taking on greater responsibility over time. What We're Looking For This position requires someone who is comfortable working hands-on with machinery rather than exclusively behind a desk. You should be able to move between engineering, programming, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, and customer support depending on what a project requires. Strong organization, attention to detail, and worksite cleanliness are important factors in this position. We build industrial equipment that needs to be reliable, safe, serviceable, and well documented, and we expect the same level of care in the way the work is performed. We're looking for someone who can help us continue improving our controls and automation capabilities as the company and our equipment become more sophisticated.
