Septic Systems Inspector Hemley's Septic Service, a trusted and professional septic service company, seeks an Experienced & Certified Septic Systems Inspector to join our growing team in Gig Harbor. Job Summary As a Septic Systems Inspector , you will be responsible for performing technical field evaluations and diagnostics to ensure system compliance and functionality. Beyond inspections, you will act as a key advisor to our customers, generating repair bids, selling necessary services, and coordinating follow-up maintenance scheduling to provide a seamless, end-to-end service experience. You will represent the company and provide expert maintenance advice to homeowners across our service areas. About Us Hemley's Septic Service, established in 1962, is a family-owned and operated business in Gig Harbor, Washington, providing professional septic and drain services to residential and commercial properties throughout Kitsap, Mason, and Pierce counties. Responsibilities Conduct thorough physical inspections of all on-site sewage system (OSS) components, including septic tanks, pump tanks, effluent pumps, panels, grease traps, drainfields, etc. Locate, expose, and dig up septic systems and components using existing county record drawings and verify that the system matches the approved design on file. For property sales or routine maintenance, assess system functionality, measure scum/sludge levels, and check for signs of surfacing sewage or system failure. Perform routine and emergency maintenance of septic systems, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, performing repairs, and minor component replacements, and scheduling repairs. Accurately record, document, organize, and submit all field inspection data, field notes, site photos, and repair bids to ensure regulatory compliance. Provide exceptional customer service, answer questions, explain inspection findings to homeowners, and provide guidance on proper system care. Generate accurate, professional repair quotes based on the company's pricing tiers and standards. Communicate specific site access requirements, such as long hose pulls or specialized equipment needs, to the dispatch team to ensure follow-up crews are properly prepared. Maintain, organize, and clean trucks, both internally and externally, to maintain daily operational effectiveness. Qualifications 3+ years of experience in a prior septic service role is preferred. O&M Level 1 (Technician / Pumper) Certification is preferred. High school diploma, general education degree, or equivalent. Valid Washington State driver's license and clean driving record. Clean driving record and ability to drive automatic transmission vehicles. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, capable of working effectively independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to repeatedly lift 50lbs+ and engage in extensive physical activity, including digging, lifting, and operating hand and power tools. Flexibility with work hours, participating in a rotating on-call schedule that includes some Saturdays and varying outdoor conditions. Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening and background checks. Possess a strong willingness to learn and grow with the company.
