Quality Control Electrical Specialist

Job Description

STATEMENT OF THE JOB
The primary purpose of the Quality Control Electrical Specialist is to test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and report internal control board failures to support improved product quality and reduced scrap. The position performs Brushfree DC control board audit testing, supports production programming and test equipment, and assists with failure analysis and root-cause investigations. The Quality Control Electrical Specialist works closely with Quality, Engineering, R&D, and Production and reports to the Quality Manager.
JOB DUTIES
Maintain open and frequent communication with Supervision, Management, Design Engineers and Technicians, Quality Engineers and Technicians, and Team and Area Leaders. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the production processes and equipment used to manufacture motors and motor controls, including wave and reflow soldering, motor and PCB testers, programming, potting, and various assembly equipment. Perform Brushfree DC control board audit tests on control boards received from contract manufacturers. Perform failure analysis, including measurement and testing, at the direction of Engineering, R&D, and/or Quality Engineers and Technicians. Troubleshoot controls and motors to the component level. Provide troubleshooting input and assist with the repair or improvement of computerized test equipment, including control board programmers and testers, when required. Enter board failures into McMillan Electric Company's scrap recording system within
AGATE/EPICORE.
Prepare and present reports, including Pareto charts and failure-mode summaries by board type. Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
2-year technical degree in electronics or a related technical discipline. Minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience working with electric motors, motor controls, electronic equipment, or similar electrical systems. General understanding of AC and DC electricity. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills. Strong communication, documentation, and reporting skills. General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability and willingness to use and expand skills with electrical test equipment, including multimeters and oscilloscopes, and electronic circuitry. Ability to work effectively with multiple departments and levels of the organization. Commitment to McMillan Electric Company's core values.
JOB TRAINING
Technical training will be provided through collaboration with R&D; and Engineering Technicians as needed. Online and self-study training may also be used to support continued development of technical skills and electrical test equipment knowledge.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Proper safety precautions must be followed when operating test equipment and investigating board failures. Safety-toed shoes are required. Safety glasses are required in the Lab and production areas. Hearing protection is required in production areas and recommended in the Lab. The employee works in a climate-controlled environment. Uniforms are provided and are the expected dress code for the Lab.
