Job Description

Position OverviewWe are seeking a Control System Engineer to design, program, commission, and maintain industrial control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role focuses on PLC and
HMI/SCADA
development, system integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of control strategies across water/wastewater/ hydroelectric, and utilities. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams to deliver turnkey control solutions from concept through startup and handover.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and document PLC logic for new and existing automation systems using ladder logic, structured text, or function block programmingDevelop, configure, and maintain SCADA and HMI applications to provide operators with clear, reliable control and visualizationIntegrate field devices, instrumentation, drives, and safety systems using industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)Perform system commissioning, loop checks, FAT/SAT support, and assist with plant startups to ensure systems perform to specificationTroubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in control systems to minimize downtime and improve reliabilityCollaborate with project managers, mechanical/electrical engineering, and operations teams to scope projects, estimate work, and deliver control system milestones on scheduleCreate and maintain clear engineering documentation, including control narratives, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, functional test plans, and user manualsImplement and optimize control strategies (PID tuning, sequencing, interlocks) and support continuous improvement initiatives to increase process efficiency and safetyProvide technical support and training to operations and maintenance staff on control system operation and best practicesEnsure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations across all control system activitiesQualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)3+ years of experience in control systems engineering within industrial environments (experience requirements flexible based on seniority)Proven hands-on experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and PLC programming languages (ladder logic, structured text, function block)Experience developing and maintaining SCADA systems and HMI applications (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk, WinCC)Strong understanding of industrial networks, communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profibus) and field instrumentationFamiliarity with industrial controls, drives, motor control, and basic electrical wiring and schematicsDemonstrated ability to commission systems, perform loop checks, and troubleshoot control hardware/software issuesExcellent problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing engineering documentation and operator training materialsWillingness to travel to project sites and support off-shift commissioning as required; valid drivers licenseRelevant certifications (e.g., ISA, Rockwell, Siemens) or training are a plusBenefitsMedicalDentalVisionPaid Time OffPaid Holidays
