Job Description

Electrical Engineer
  • PCB & Hardware Design E.I. Medical Imaging Position Electrical Engineer
  • PCB & Hardware Design Department Engineering Reports To Chief Technology Officer Location Loveland, Colorado (on-site) Employment Type Full-time, Exempt Experience Level Mid to Senior (5+ years) Compensation $85,000
  • $145,000 (based on experience) + benefits About E.
I. Medical Imaging E.I. Medical Imaging (EIMI) designs and manufactures the Ibex family of portable, ruggedized ultrasound systems for veterinary use, built for chutes, barns, and pastures around the globe. We are a small, hands-on team where engineers own their work from first schematic through production and field support. The Role EIMI is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to own the design of the PCBs used in its systems: architecture, component selection, schematic capture, multilayer layout, bring-up, and release to manufacturing, for current Ibex products and our next-generation platform. This position is the primary electrical design authority on PCBs, working closely with firmware, software, mechanical, production, and service to deliver hardware that is compact, power-efficient, manufacturable, and tough enough for years of field use. Key Responsibilities Own board architecture, schematic capture, and multilayer PCB layout for new products and revisions, including library and footprint management. Design mixed-signal circuits spanning high-speed digital (processors/SoCs, DDR, USB, PCIe, MIPI), low-noise analog including ultrasound AFE, and power electronics.
Design battery-powered systems:
Li-ion charging and protection, DC-DC conversion, power sequencing, and low-power modes. Apply sound SI/PI, grounding, impedance control, and stackup practices, and design for shock, vibration, moisture, temperature, and ESD in harsh field environments. Select components for performance, cost, availability, and lifecycle; manage second sources, obsolescence, and accurate BOMs with purchasing. Lead prototype bring-up, debug, and design verification, including EMC/EMI, RED/FCC, and electrical safety compliance testing. Release complete fabrication and assembly packages using DFM, DFA, and DFT principles, working directly with fab houses and contract manufacturers. Support production and service with root-cause analysis on failed boards and field returns, and maintain design documentation and ECOs. Required Qualifications B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. 5+ years of board-level hardware design experience, taking multiple products from concept to production. Proven ability to independently own both schematic capture and multilayer layout in Altium Designer, OrCAD/Allegro, KiCad, or similar. Working knowledge of processor-based designs (ARM SoCs or similar), DDR memory, and high-speed serial interfaces. Experience with mixed-signal, power-management, and battery-powered design, including signal/power integrity and stackup fundamentals.
Hands-on bench skills:
bring-up, debug, and fine-pitch SMT/BGA rework. Familiarity with EMC/EMI design practices and compliance testing. Clear documentation habits and the ability to explain design tradeoffs to non-EE teammates. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ultrasound, imaging, or other high-channel-count analog/data acquisition systems. Experience integrating edge AI/ML compute modules into embedded hardware. Experience with portable or ruggedized products, and with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth RF layout and antenna integration. Familiarity with CE (including RED), FCC, IEC 61010/60601, and quality systems such as ISO 13485 or
ISO 9001.
Experience with FPGA hardware design. Experience building a PCB design process, libraries, and design reviews at a small company. Interest or experience in AI-assisted hardware design tools (design review, placement and routing, or EDA-integrated assistants), with sound judgment on verifying their output. What Success Looks Like First 90 days: Establish EIMI's in-house PCB design workflow (tools, libraries, design rules, reviews, and release process), including evaluation of AI-assisted tools.
First year:
Take at least one board through prototype into production and become the go-to resource for board issues. What We Offer End-to-end ownership of hardware design on products used by veterinarians and producers worldwide. Small, collaborative team with direct access to leadership. A team that actively uses AI in its engineering work, with room to evaluate and adopt AI-assisted design tools. Competitive salary, health/dental/vision, retirement plan, PTO. How to Apply Send your resume and a brief cover letter to ptemple@eimedical.com Examples of board designs you have owned (schematics, layout screenshots, or a description of your role) are strongly encouraged.
