Forklift Exchange, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in mobile equipment electrical systems and wire harness design . This position will be responsible for designing, documenting, testing, and continuously improving the electrical systems used across Royal Rig's heavy-duty forklift product line. This is a hands-on engineering position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working at a computer designing electrical systems and harnesses, but equally comfortable working directly on a prototype machine with technicians and production personnel to troubleshoot, test, and improve the design. Key Responsibilities Design complete 12V/24V electrical systems and wire harnesses for heavy mobile equipment. Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, connector pinouts, and bills of material. Design harnesses for engines, transmissions/hydrostatic systems, hydraulic controls, operator controls, lighting, safety systems, sensors, and accessories. Select appropriate wire sizes, connectors, terminals, relays, fuses, circuit protection, switches, sensors, and electrical components. Develop and maintain electrical interfaces with PLCs/controllers, CAN bus/J1939 networks, engines, Danfoss hydrostatic components, displays, sensors, and other electronic controls . Design harnesses for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and straightforward installation. Establish proper harness routing, mounting, protection, labeling, connector locations, and service access. Work directly with Royal's in-house harness department to ensure harnesses can be built consistently and efficiently. Develop and maintain harness test procedures and test fixtures so completed harnesses can be verified before installation on the machine. Troubleshoot prototype and production machines and determine the root cause of electrical problems rather than relying on temporary fixes. Support prototype builds and convert lessons learned during prototyping into permanent engineering changes. Work closely with mechanical, hydraulic, manufacturing, assembly, and service teams. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, revisions, BOMs, and electrical standards across the Royal product line. Help standardize components and electrical architecture across multiple Royal models to reduce part count, inventory, assembly time, and service complexity. Support production and field service when electrical troubleshooting expertise is required. Primary Objective Royal's goal is to develop electrical systems that are simple, reliable, repeatable, easy to manufacture, and easy to troubleshoot in the field . A successful design should allow Royal to: Build and test harnesses before they reach final assembly. Install harnesses without cutting, modifying, extending, or reworking wiring during production. Use common electrical components and design standards across multiple models wherever practical. Provide technicians with clear schematics and diagnostic information. Reduce assembly time and eliminate recurring electrical problems through permanent engineering solutions. Take a prototype electrical system and turn it into a documented, production-ready system that can be duplicated machine after machine. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience. Experience designing electrical systems or wire harnesses for off-highway equipment, forklifts, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, trucks, automotive systems, or other mobile machinery strongly preferred. Strong understanding of 12V/24V DC electrical systems. Experience with CAN bus and J1939 communications preferred. Experience with mobile hydraulic or hydrostatic equipment is highly desirable. Ability to read and create professional electrical schematics and harness documentation. Understanding of electrical troubleshooting, voltage drop, grounding, circuit protection, electrical loads, and component selection. Experience working directly with manufacturing and technicians during prototype development. Strong practical problem-solving skills. Ideal Candidate We are looking for more than someone who can create drawings. We want an engineer who can own the electrical system from concept through production .
