Senior / Lead Engineer About the Position Kobi Tools Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical & Controls Automation Engineer to take full ownership of the electrical engineering, controls, and automation portion of our industrial machine-building projects. This is a senior engineering position . You will be the lead engineer responsible for the complete electrical and controls side of the machines we design and manufacture. We are not looking for someone who will simply program PLCs from specifications developed by another engineer. We are looking for an experienced engineer who can determine how the entire electrical and automation system should be designed, built, programmed, tested, and commissioned. You will work directly with our mechanical engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, and management teams to develop complete machines from initial concept through production. Our projects include automated bottle filling and packaging equipment, conveyors, material handling systems, liquid processing equipment, blow molding equipment, and other custom manufacturing machinery. Your Role as Senior Engineer You will have primary responsibility and authority for the electrical and controls engineering of our machinery . You will be expected to take a machine from concept to a fully operational production system and determine: Overall electrical architecture Machine power requirements PLC and HMI platform Electrical control panel design Motors, VFDs, and servo systems Sensors and instrumentation Pneumatic and solenoid controls Machine safety systems Industrial communications PLC programming HMI programming Motion control Machine operating sequences Alarms and diagnostics Electrical documentation Testing and troubleshooting Machine startup and commissioning You will essentially own the electrical and automation portion of each machine from beginning to completion. Responsibilities Serve as the Senior/Lead Electrical & Controls Engineer for new machine development Develop the complete electrical and controls architecture for industrial machinery Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O drawings, and bills of materials Design and specify industrial electrical control panels Determine appropriate PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, motor, sensor, safety, and control hardware Program PLCs from the ground up Develop complete HMI/operator interfaces Develop machine sequences, interlocks, recipes, alarms, diagnostics, counters, timers, and production controls Design and implement servo and motion-control systems when required Integrate VFDs, motors, encoders, sensors, solenoid valves, pneumatic components, instrumentation, and other field devices Configure industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP/RTU, RS-232, and RS-485 Design machine safety systems including emergency stops, safety relays/PLCs, interlocked guarding, light curtains, and other safety devices Work directly with mechanical engineers during machine development to ensure mechanical and electrical systems operate as one complete system Oversee electrical panel construction and machine wiring Review electrical work and ensure machines are wired according to the engineering design Develop and maintain electrical and controls documentation Perform machine startup, testing, debugging, and commissioning Troubleshoot complex electrical, PLC, communication, sensor, motor, servo, and automation problems Improve and modernize existing manufacturing equipment Establish electrical and controls engineering standards for future machines Help select the automation platforms and components that will become standards for our equipment Provide technical leadership to electricians, technicians, programmers, and other personnel involved in machine construction Preferred Technical Experience Strong experience with industrial machine automation is required. Experience with OEM machine building, packaging machinery, filling equipment, conveyors, process equipment, or custom automation equipment is strongly preferred. industrial control panels NFPA 79 electrical standards for industrial machinery Machine safety standards and risk reduction Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred Significant experience designing electrical and control systems for industrial machinery Strong PLC and HMI programming experience Ability to independently develop an automation system from concept through production Strong understanding of industrial electrical power and control systems Ability to create and review professional electrical schematics Experience selecting and specifying industrial automation components Strong understanding of machine safety systems Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Comfortable working hands-on with machinery during development and commissioning Ability to lead the electrical and controls portion of multiple machine-development projects Ability to work closely with mechanical engineers, machinists, fabricators, electricians, technicians, and manufacturing personnel Who We Are Looking For We are looking for a machine builder and problem solver , not simply a PLC programmer. The right person should be able to look at a new machine concept and say: "I can design the complete electrical and controls system required to make this machine operate." You should be comfortable making engineering decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. You will be the senior engineer in charge of the electrical and automation side of our machine-building projects and will have significant influence over how our future manufacturing equipment is designed. Pay:
$120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year

Have you personally designed the complete electrical and controls system for a new industrial machine from concept through commissioning? How many years of PLC programming experience do you have with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs? Can you independently create complete electrical schematics, control-panel designs, I/O drawings, and bills of materials for a new industrial machine? Do you have experience programming HMIs and integrating VFDs, servo drives, motors, sensors, safety devices, and pneumatic/solenoid systems? Describe one machine or automated system for which you were the lead electrical/controls engineer. What did the machine do, and which portions of the electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, safety system, and commissioning were you personally responsible for? Do you have experience designing machine safety systems, including E-stops, safety relays or safety PLCs, guard interlocks, light curtains, and Safe Torque Off (STO), with knowledge of NFPA 79 and/or UL 508A? Are you comfortable serving as the senior engineer responsible for the entire electrical and controls portion of our machine-building projects, including making engineering decisions and taking projects from initial concept through final production?
