Job Description The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, engineering, implementation, and maintenance of utility, distribution, and building electrical systems across campus. This role provides technical expertise for power generation, electrical distribution, lighting, controls, and high-voltage systems while ensuring compliance with University standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements. The position also supports new construction, renovation projects, and campus operations through collaboration with internal departments, architects, consultants, and contractors. Key Responsibilities Design, engineer, and support utility, distribution, and building electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and control systems across various voltage levels. Prepare project estimates, engineering designs, specifications, and material procurement plans. Manage electrical projects from planning through commissioning, including project management and contractor oversight. Coordinate and supervise contractor installations to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with project requirements. Provide technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of campus electrical systems and utility infrastructure. Collaborate with Maintenance, Planning, Design & Construction, campus stakeholders, architects, consultants, and contractors on new construction and renovation projects. Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce University electrical design standards. Review electrical drawings, specifications, and design documents for compliance with University standards and project requirements. Ensure all electrical systems and projects comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Support the Utilities Engineering Group in developing reliable, safe, and efficient electrical infrastructure for the campus. Respond to electrical emergencies and provide technical support as needed. This position requires availability for emergency response at any time. Qualifications Education Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or (BSEET) from an accredited institution. Experience Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or utility infrastructure. Technical Knowledge & Skills Power system engineering Electrical distribution system planning High-voltage electrical systems Electrical installation and safety practices Cable and electrical equipment testing Electrical system troubleshooting Protective relaying Fault current analysis Relay settings, calculations, and coordination Electrical system testing and commissioning Electrical metering design and applications Electrical control system design and applications Project management and contractor coordination Engineering design, estimating, and technical specifications Codes & Standards National Electrical Code (NEC) National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Grounding and lightning protection standards Applicable federal, state, and local electrical regulations
