Battery System Application Engineer Location:
Elkhart, Indiana | Full-Time | Salaried / Exempt Help Engineer the Future of Electrified Mobility OPmobility is seeking an experienced Battery System Application Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing, and validation of advanced lithium-ion battery systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with direct experience in battery pack development, electric vehicles, vehicle integration, prototype builds, high-voltage systems, and mechatronics. You will work closely with customers and global engineering teams to translate vehicle requirements into safe, reliable, and manufacturable battery solutions. Key Responsibilities Support battery pack design with an emphasis on electrical architecture, system integration, performance, safety, and manufacturability. Translate customer and vehicle requirements into battery system specifications, interfaces, validation plans, and product variants. Support the integration and validation of battery packs within electric and hybrid vehicle platforms. Participate in prototype builds, vehicle trials, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer testing. Develop and execute test procedures for battery systems, electrical components, and lithium-ion cells. Specify and operate battery cyclers, oscilloscopes, meters, diagnostic equipment, and analysis software. Perform technical risk assessments, design verification, performance analysis, and root-cause investigations. Support Battery Management System hardware, controls, diagnostics, sensing, communications, and fault-management strategies. Participate in DFMEA, APQP, design reviews, engineering changes, and continuous-improvement activities. Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, validation, quality, manufacturing, program-management, and global engineering teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, preferably within the automotive, battery, EV, or hybrid-vehicle industry. Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery packs, high-voltage battery systems, EV/HEV applications, vehicle integration, or prototype development. Experience reviewing customer requirements and translating them into technical specifications and validation requirements. Strong knowledge of DFMEA, design verification, technical risk analysis, and product validation. Experience developing or executing tests using battery cyclers, oscilloscopes, meters, diagnostic tools, or data-analysis software. Working knowledge of battery pack safety, quality, electrical architecture, and manufacturability. Strong problem-solving, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to travel approximately once per month based on program and customer needs. Preferred Experience Four or more years of direct battery pack development experience. Experience with LTO or NMC lithium-ion battery systems. Experience with Battery Management Systems, embedded controls, diagnostics, or hardware design. Knowledge of power electronics, high-voltage distribution, contactors, pre-charge systems, sensors, and electrical interfaces. Experience with schematic or electrical design software. Familiarity with APQP, IATF, ISO, automotive quality systems, and customer-specific development processes. Experience working with international engineering teams. Why Join OPmobility? Pay:
$100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
