Job Description

Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Engineering & Design team in the Aerospace & Defense industry. You will design, develop, and verify avionics, aircraft instruments, and electrical power/backup power systems, ensuring compliance with aviation and defense standards. Responsibilities include circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout collaboration, requirements definition, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-reliability products, support continuous improvement, and contribute to innovative solutions that enhance flight safety and operational reliability. Responsibilities Design, analyze, and document mixed-signal and power electronics hardware for avionics and aircraft instruments Develop schematics, select components, and collaborate on PCB layout for high-reliability aerospace products Perform circuit bring-up, lab testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization using standard test equipment Support environmental, qualification, and compliance testing to applicable aerospace standards such as DO-160 Contribute to requirements development, flow-down, and traceability for electrical hardware Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design analyses, test plans, and reports Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and risk assessments to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance Collaborate with systems, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle Support transition of designs to production, including resolving manufacturability and test issues Drive continuous improvement in design practices, processes, and product performance in line with company quality objectives Required Skills Analog circuit design Digital circuit design Power electronics design (DC-DC, AC-DC, inverters, converters) Mixed-signal hardware design Schematic capture (e.g., Altium, Or CAD, or similar) PCB design collaboration and layout review Circuit simulation and analysis (SPICE or equivalent) Signal integrity and power integrity fundamentals EMI/EMC design practices Design for reliability in aerospace environments Design for manufacturability and test (DFM/DFT) Lab test and measurement (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, etc.) Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis Requirements analysis and traceability DO-160 environmental and qualification testing familiarity DO-254 complex hardware process familiarity Technical documentation and report writing Configuration management practices Collaboration in cross-functional engineering teams
