Job Description

Controls EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, integrate, and commission control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role focuses on AllenBradley PLC/HMI development, controls integration across mechanical and electrical systems, and handson commissioning at factory and field sites. The ideal candidate will collaborate with project teams, vendors, and operations to deliver turnkey control solutions and troubleshoot complex system issues.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, program, and maintain AllenBradley PLC and HMI applications (Studio 5000/RSLogix and FactoryTalk or equivalent).Lead controls integration activities to connect PLCs, HMIs, drives, instrumentation, and other field devices into cohesive control systems.

Plan, execute, and document factory acceptance tests (FATs), site acceptance tests (SATs), and commissioning activities to ensure systems meet design and operational requirements.

Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues during installation, startup, and ongoing operation; provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Prepare and review control system design deliverables including logic diagrams, I/O lists, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, process, and safety engineering teams to ensure coordinated system implementation and compliance with project specifications and standards.

Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation: control narratives, test procedures, commissioning reports, and operations/maintenance manuals.

Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams, including training operators and creating standard operating procedures.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors for procurement, integration, and field support of control system components.

Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout design, installation, and commissioning.

QualificationsBS or AS Degree1+ years of handson experience programming and commissioning AllenBradley PLCs and associated
HMI/SCADA
systems.

Proven experience with controls integration across PLCs, drives, instruments, and networks in industrial environments.

Demonstrated commissioning experience including FATs, SATs, loop checks, and startup support.

Strong understanding of electrical schematics, I/O wiring, communications protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, etc.), and industrial networking.

Proficient troubleshooting skills and experience with diagnostics, signal tracing, and root cause analysis.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical documentation and training materials.

Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning and support.

Nice to have: experience in the chemical industry, knowledge of process control strategies and PID tuning, and familiarity with industry standards (ISA, NEC, IEC).BenefitsBenefits, 401K, PTO, Paid Holidays
