Electrical Designer - Building Power Systems

Job Description

Electrical Designer - Power Systems / Building Design We're looking for an Electrical Designer with 0-5 years of experience to join our electrical engineering team in our new Orange County office. This position is focused on the design of lighting and electrical systems for construction projects. You'll work directly with engineers and other designers to develop power distribution, lighting, and related electrical systems from early design through construction documents and construction administration. For someone early in their career, we're not expecting you to already know everything. We are looking for someone with a good electrical foundation, solid Revit skills (preferred), attention to detail, and an interest in learning how buildings are designed and constructed. We want someone on the front side of their career who is looking for and open to being mentored. What You'll Be Doing Your day-to-day work will include things like: Developing electrical construction drawings in Revit Designing building power distribution systems Laying out of devices, equipment circuiting, development of panelboard schedules, documentation of single line diagrams and their associated equipment. Developing lighting and lighting control plans. Preforming lighting calculations using AGI32. Performing load calculations, voltage drop calculations, and renewable calculations (solar / PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems) Coordinating electrical systems with architectural, mechanical, plumbing, structural, and other disciplines Reviewing architectural backgrounds and equipment requirements to determine and implement project program requirements Participation in coordination meetings with the project team Assisting with site surveys and documenting existing electrical conditions Assistance with Construction Administration including submittal and RFI response. Learning how the NEC, California Electrical Code, energy codes, and local requirements affect the design You won't just be drafting someone else's redlines. As you gain experience, you'll be expected to understand the systems you're drawing, identify coordination issues, and take ownership of larger portions of the electrical design. What We're Looking For We're interested in candidates with 0-5 years of electrical design experience , including recent graduates who have relevant Revit or building-design experience.
You should have:
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering or a related field Experience working in Autodesk Revit An interest in electrical power systems and building construction A basic understanding of electrical circuits and power distribution The ability to stay organized while working on multiple projects The willingness to ask questions, learn, and take on more responsibility as your experience grows. An interest in being part of a close knit team who want to provide the best possible designs and support for our clients. Previous experience with an electrical engineering, MEP, architecture, or design-build firm is a plus, but not required for the right candidate. Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, electrical calculation software, or lighting calculation programs is also a plus. The Kind of Person Who Will Do Well Here We're looking for someone who wants to become a strong electrical designer—not someone who simply wants to produce drawings. You should be curious about how electrical systems work, comfortable digging into a problem when something doesn't make sense, and willing to coordinate directly with the rest of the project team. Attention to detail matters. So does being able to communicate when you don't know something. Its okay to not know something as long as you're comfortable asking questions. If your goal is to develop your technical skills, learn electrical building design from experienced engineers, and gradually take ownership of your own projects, this position offers that opportunity. Experience 0-5 years Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Revit 0 Experience using Revit specifically for MEP or electrical construction documents is strongly preferred. Compensation & Benefits Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
