GEUS Senior Engineering Technician

Job Description

FUNCTION
Team Leader providing guidance and electric system technical evaluation, design, planning, data gathering, estimating, staking, and mapping
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Technician team leader providing technical guidance, direction, and coordinationEnsures the use of proper standards and procedures and recommends process improvement Collaborates with peers and other departments to help minimize workflow issues and provides guidance to the team on standards and guidelines regarding technical mattersDevelop and mentor technicians for continuous improvement of technical expertise 5. Train team members on technical matters and departmental processes 6. Ensure the quality and accuracy of calculations, reports, and drawings Design of electric utility facilities 8. Design of UG and OH systems for new developments 9. Design new construction, upgrades, and replacements Creation of work orders and estimatesCommunicate and meet with customers to address concerns, requests, deficiencies, service problems, and outage planningInterface with other City departments and other governmental entities 13. Attend City planning meetings and provide review of various submittals Gathering of field data for engineering functionsStaking of electric facilitiesResearch legal documents for easements and property descriptionsMapping and inspection of electric utility equipment 18. Assist in the development and revisions of construction standards and engineering reference material 19. Evaluate and recommend construction and operating practices 20. Assist with system restoration due to storms, failures, and abnormalities 21. Subject to emergency response after normal working hours 22. Know, understand, and follow GEUS safety rules, policies, and procedures The primary responsibilities only include essential functions of the job and does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
1. High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred 2. Minimum of six years of electric utility related experience 3. Demonstrated leadership skills 4. Proficient working knowledge of electrical theory 5. Mastery of all tools and equipment necessary to perform the job 6. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management as well as customers, City and state personnel, and personnel from other utilities 7. Proficient working knowledge of NESC and NEC rules and regulations, safety rules, and APPA Safety Manual 8. Proficiency with standard PC software including MS Office software 9. Valid Texas driver's license.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
1. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. 2. Ability to work outside under adverse conditions
