Job Overview Baker Audio Visual is seeking an experienced AV Design Engineer with a strong background in professional audio and large-venue systems to join our growing team. This position will focus on the design, engineering, and commissioning of complex audiovisual systems for stadiums, arenas, performing arts centers, entertainment venues, and other large-scale commercial environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of professional audio system design, including loudspeaker selection and coverage, digital signal processing (DSP), networked audio, signal flow, and system integration. Experience designing permanent audio installations for large venues is highly desirable. In this role, you will lead AV system design efforts from initial concept through construction documentation and commissioning, collaborating closely with clients, account managers, architects, and project teams to deliver innovative, high-performance audiovisual solutions. While professional audio and large-venue experience are central to this position, the successful candidate should also possess a strong understanding of integrated AV systems, including video, control, networking, and related technologies. This position may be based in the following metro areas: Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; or Greenville, SC. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and engineering of complex professional audio and integrated AV systems from initial concept through construction documentation and commissioning. Design permanent audio systems for stadiums, arenas, performing arts centers, entertainment venues, and other large-scale commercial facilities. Develop professional audio system designs, including loudspeaker selection and placement, coverage modeling, amplifier sizing, signal flow, and DSP architecture. Utilize acoustic modeling and prediction software to evaluate loudspeaker coverage, sound pressure levels, and system performance. Design and integrate networked audio systems using Dante, AES67, and other industry-standard audio networking technologies. Develop comprehensive system drawings, including audio signal flow diagrams, schematics, riser diagrams, rack elevations, equipment layouts, and detailed installation documentation. Collaborate with account managers and project teams to define project scope, develop equipment specifications, establish budgets, and identify appropriate system solutions. Conduct site surveys to evaluate existing infrastructure, acoustic conditions, and project-specific technical requirements. Provide technical guidance throughout installation, system integration, testing, and commissioning. Perform audiovisual system commissioning, including DSP configuration, audio system optimization, video routing, and control system validation. Collaborate with architects, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams to resolve design challenges and ensure successful system integration. Prepare detailed technical specifications, equipment lists, and engineering documentation for proposals, construction drawings, and project submittals. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications & Skills Required Qualifications 2-6 years of experience in audiovisual system design, engineering, implementation, or commissioning, with demonstrated experience in professional audio system design. Strong understanding of professional audio systems, including loudspeaker technologies, amplifiers, DSP, mixing consoles, microphones, and audio signal distribution. Experience designing or engineering permanent audio installations for large commercial environments. Stadium, arena, performing arts, or entertainment venue experience is highly desirable. Proficiency in audio system design principles, including loudspeaker coverage, signal flow, gain structure, amplifier sizing, and system optimization. Experience with professional audio and DSP technologies such as Q-SYS, Biamp, BSS, Shure, Sennheiser, or comparable systems. Working knowledge of networked audio technologies, including Dante and AES67. Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit, with the ability to develop detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation. Strong understanding of integrated audiovisual systems, including video distribution, control systems, networking, and system interoperability. Excellent problem-solving skills, technical aptitude, and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal project teams. Ability to manage multiple design projects, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications Experience with large-format loudspeaker systems, line arrays, distributed audio, and high-performance sound reinforcement systems. Familiarity with professional audio manufacturers such as L-Acoustics, d&b audiotechnik, JBL Professional, Meyer Sound, Renkus-Heinz, or similar manufacturers. Experience designing audio systems for stadiums, arenas, sports and entertainment venues, auditoriums, or other acoustically challenging environments. Experience with professional audio system commissioning, tuning, and acoustic measurement tools such as Smaart. AVIXA CTS or CTS-D certification. Dante certification or manufacturer-specific professional audio certifications. Experience with Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, or similar AV control and integration platforms. Experience with Bluebeam, Microsoft 365, and other engineering or project documentation tools.
