Audio-Visual (A/V) Engineering Supervisor

Job Description

The Audio-Visual (A/V) Engineering Supervisor leads the County's A/V team and plays a critical role in delivering seamless, immersive experiences that enhance the County's engagement with its constituents and peers. This position is responsible for supervising A/V technicians and support staff while overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of A/V systems for various applications, including video conferencing, in-person meetings, virtual court proceedings, and live events. In addition to providing hands-on technical leadership, the A/V Engineering Supervisor sets priorities, manages staff schedules and workload, develops team members, and collaborates with multiple departments to ensure the efficient and effective use of A/V technology, contributing to the County's communication and operational success.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of A/V technicians and support staff, including assigning work, setting priorities, and managing daily schedules.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to A/V staff, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and training of A/V team members.
  • Establish and enforce A/V standards, policies, procedures, and best practices across County facilities.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including scoping work, reviewing quotes, and ensuring the quality of installations and services.
  • Plan and manage the A/V budget, equipment lifecycle, and capital replacement needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex A/V issues and high-profile events.
  • Design and implement audio-visual systems tailored to the County's needs.
  • Oversee and coordinate vendors in the installation and setup of A/V equipment, such as projectors, sound systems, and video conferencing tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of A/V systems.
  • Configure and calibrate A/V equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support virtual trials, hearings, and other court proceedings using tools like Zoom, Teams, or similar platforms.
  • Provide technical support and training for users on A/V system operations.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to integrate A/V systems into the County's network infrastructure.
  • Manage and document the inventory of A/V equipment and accessories.
  • Stay updated on the latest A/V technologies and industry trends.
  • Assist in planning and executing live events, conferences, and presentations.
  • Customize control systems and user interfaces for user-friendly operation.
  • Create detailed system diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Leadership & Supervisory Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive A/V experience, including at least two (2) years in a lead, senior, or supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, scheduling, and developing technical staff.
  • Proven ability to manage vendors, contracts, and A/V project budgets.
  • Strong leadership, delegation, and team-building skills.
  • Experience conducting performance evaluations and providing coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize team workload across multiple concurrent projects and events. Certifications & Technical Expertise
  • Certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) .
  • Experience with A/V control systems like Crestron, Extron, or AMX .
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio , or similar design software for system layouts.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and IP-based A/V solutions.
  • Familiarity with acoustics and sound system design principles.
  • Knowledge of video production and editing software. Project & Technical Skills
  • Proven project management experience in leading A/V projects.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience in the installation and configuration of A/V equipment.
  • Expertise in cabling, wiring, and electrical systems. Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to travel to various sites and work under pressure.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy A/V equipment as required. Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to stay current with evolving A/V technologies.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Technical writing skills for creating manuals and documentation.
  • Availability to respond to A/V needs outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, to support events and court proceedings as needed.
