Type:

full-time The Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and verifying all commissioning activities to ensure that systems, equipment, and processes operate safely and meet the project requirements. This role bridges engineering, construction, operations, and vendor teams to deliver a successful startup and turnover. Anticipated as 40-50 hours per week and escalate to exceed 50 hours/wk toward end of project. 1. Planning & Preparation

  • Develop the plant-wide commissioning plan, scope, strategy, and schedule.
  • Review design documents, P&IDs, equipment specs, and vendor submittals for commissioning impacts.
  • Establish the Commissioning Tracking Matrix and define required pre-functional and functional tests.
  • Identify commissioning risks and integrate safety and regulatory requirements into the plan. 2. Coordination & Leadership
  • Lead and coordinate commissioning teams: engineering, construction, OEMs, controls, and operations.
  • Facilitate daily/weekly commissioning coordination meetings and remove barriers to progress.
  • Align commissioning activities with construction sequencing and operational readiness.
  • Communicate status, risks, and required decisions to project leadership. 3. Documentation & Readiness
  • Ensure completion of Equipment Turnover Packages and installation verifications.
  • Manage turnover documentation redlines, O&M manuals, startup procedures, and vendor reports.
  • Verify equipment and systems are ready for safe energization and testing.
  • Ensure vendor startup requirements and warranties are satisfied. 4. Execution & Testing
  • Oversee start-up, energization, functional testing, and integration testing.
  • Confirm system operation meets design intent, safety requirements, and performance targets.
  • Validate interlocks, alarms, controls logic, and system interactions.
  • Troubleshoot deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and engineering. 5. Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce commissioning-specific LOTO, hazard analysis, and energization safety protocols.
  • Ensure all tests meet regulatory, environmental, and code requirements.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, utilities, and AHJs as needed. 6. Quality Assurance & Performance Verification
  • Verify systems against project requirements, Basis of Design, and equipment specifications.
  • Oversee performance, load, and reliability testing.
  • Document results and ensure traceability for all tests and signoffs. 7. Turnover & Close Out
  • Prepare final commissioning reports, performance summaries, and acceptance packages.
  • Lead handover to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Confirm punch list items are resolved, and warranty periods are initiated.
  • Capture lessons learned for future projects. 8. Post Commissioning Support (as required)
  • Support operational ramp-up and system tuning.
  • Assist with warranty claims, optimization, and reliability improvements.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 15 years industrial manufacturing experience and successful leadership of at least two major facility startups, including one greenfield project.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated commissioning strategies, managing turnover systems, coordinating OEM startup activities, and leading operations readiness programs is required.
  • Experience with wood products, pulp and paper, panelboard, or other continuous-process manufacturing facilities are strongly preferred.
  • Prior responsibility for commissioning budgets, staffing, system handover, and startup ramp-up.
