SUMMARY :
Highly responsible, technical, supervisory, and administrative position relating to the operation of all public works projects in the County. Work involves organizing, planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of public works projects in the County. Work is performed independently. Independent professional judgment and initiative is exercised in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. Work is reviewed by observations of results obtained, periodic written reports and through conferences.
ESSENTIAL/SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, review, and inspection of storm drainage systems, roads, streets, bridges, curbs and gutters, solid waste facilities and other public works projects.
Job emphasis is placed on street and drainage design, preparation of construction plans, specification, cost estimates, and review of subdivision and site plans for compliance with accepted policies, standards and regulatory codes.
Plan, schedule, and supervise public works improvements and lend technical assistance and supervision of employees engaged in public works operations.
Attends and participates in conferences and meetings as directed.
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited university or college, preferably mechanical or civil engineering. Must be able to pass the Professional Engineers test within three (3) years.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
:
Thorough knowledge of modern techniques, methods, procedures, principles, and practices of all phases of engineering, public works services, personnel, finance, business administration, and the ability to apply them.
Ability to plan, direct, supervise, coordinate, organize, and inspect engineering plans, programs, and activities.
Ability to prepare written technical reports, estimates, construction and cost records.
Ability to plan, assign, instruct, review, and evaluate work assignments of technical and professional personnel and consultants.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with subordinates, superiors, municipal officials, consultants, and the general public.
Ability to prepare, develop, and present long-range engineering plans and programs.

PREFERRED CRITERIA
Possession of a professional engineer license registered in Florida is preferred or must acquire with three (3) years.
