Owen Electric

Senior Electrical Project Manager - Systems and Process Development

Job Description

Position Overview Owen Electric is looking for an experienced Electrical Senior Project Manager to take on a unique role helping us develop the next generation of systems, processes, and automation used throughout our construction operations. This is not a traditional project-assignment Senior Project Manager position, and this is not a programming position. We have an internal Building Information and Systems team with the technical ability to develop customized tools, workflows, and automation for our organization. What we need is an experienced electrical construction professional who understands how projects actually operate and can provide the construction knowledge and logic behind what we build. This position will work closely with company leadership and our internal systems team to take real-world electrical construction processes and break them down from beginning to end — determining what should happen, when it should happen, who should be involved, what information is required, and how exceptions should be handled.
Simply put:
our programmers know how to build the tools. We need someone who knows how electrical construction works to help determine what those tools need to do. What You'll Do
  • Serve as the electrical construction subject-matter expert for our internal Building Information and Systems teams.
  • Work with leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, Accounting, Estimating, Purchasing, and other departments to understand how work is currently being performed.
  • Break complex construction processes into clear, logical workflows that can be developed and automated by our internal programming team.
  • Define each step of a process, including responsibilities, required information, approvals, notifications, decision points, exceptions, and handoffs.
  • Help design and improve systems involving project startup, budgeting, procurement, RFIs, submittals, change management, labor tracking, forecasting, billing, scheduling, closeout, and other critical construction functions.
  • Identify repetitive or inefficient processes that could be simplified or automated.
  • Work directly with programmers throughout development to answer construction-related questions and provide the operational knowledge necessary to keep development moving.
  • Review and test internally developed tools from the perspective of an experienced electrical Project Manager.
  • Identify real-world scenarios and exceptions that need to be accounted for before systems are deployed.
  • Work with Project Managers and field leadership to validate new processes and ensure they are practical for the people who will actually use them.
  • Assist with the rollout, documentation, training, and continuous improvement of newly developed systems and processes.
  • Help create standardized processes that can support Owen Electric as we continue to grow. What We're Looking For
  • Significant electrical construction Project Management experience, preferably at the Senior Project Manager level.
  • Strong understanding of the complete electrical construction project lifecycle.
  • Experience managing commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or other complex electrical construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls, budgeting, forecasting, change orders, procurement, scheduling, labor management, billing, RFIs, submittals, and project closeout.
  • Comfortable working with construction technology and learning new systems.
  • Experience with platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, ERP/project management systems, reporting tools, or similar construction technology is strongly preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take a complicated process and break it into clear, logical steps.
  • Ability to think beyond "this is how we've always done it" and identify better ways to accomplish the same objective.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate construction operations into requirements that a technical team can understand.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both construction professionals and technical personnel.
You do not need to be a programmer or software developer. We are looking for the construction knowledge behind the technology. Our internal team will handle the programming and technical development. The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical Project Manager who understands technology, enjoys solving problems, and has probably spent much of their career thinking: "There has to be a better way to do this." Why This Role Is Different This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical construction professional to use years of project management knowledge in a completely different way. Instead of managing one individual project, you will have the opportunity to help develop the systems and processes that Project Managers and field teams throughout Owen Electric use to manage projects. Your experience running electrical construction projects will directly influence how we build, automate, and improve the way our company operates.
