Job Description Summary/objective The Engineering Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing engineering to meet company objectives for design, new product development, and improvement of existing product lines. This role leads the engineering team in the design, documentation, and validation of highly technical, high-precision titanium, steel, and aluminum performance components, and serves as the primary technical point of contact for customers on technical issues related to projects and parts. The Engineering Manager develops, documents, and improves manufacturing standards; troubleshoots issues, and recommends corrective action; and partners with Operations and Quality leadership to ensure engineering decisions support overall cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Essential functions Plan, organize, and direct engineering activities to meet company objectives for design, new product development, and improvement of existing product lines. Responsible for design, design documentation, job routing, bill of materials, and CNC programming for manufactured parts. Develop and enforce standardized engineering practices, processes, tools, and methods across all value streams. Lead the innovation pipeline and new product development from concept through production launch, including first-article inspection and production validation. Direct process development for CNC machining, tooling, and fixturing to improve manufacturing efficiency, cycle time, and quality. Continue development and expansion of the company's configuration process. Lead implementation of automation solutions across engineering and manufacturing processes. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers on engineering matters related to projects and parts, and coordinate with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to support Xceldyne's technical and commercial interests. Partner with the Quality Manager and Production Manager to ensure engineering supports overall quality, cost, and delivery objectives, and assist with internal and external quality audits, including ISO. Review technical drawings and prints and support cost and quote estimation (labor, material, tooling) for new and existing parts. Oversee development and maintenance of the Bill of Materials and Job Routers for all manufactured items, and maintain accurate engineering data and documentation. Assist in preparing the Annual Operating Plan, engineering department budget, manpower plans, and capital investment proposals. Track engineering project deliverables against budget, key performance indicators (KPIs), and schedule, driving on-time closure. Perform necessary engineering calculations and proper material selection to satisfy required design functionality and performance requirements. Ensure engineering processes comply with the company's quality management system and applicable health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) requirements. Develop creative and innovative engineered solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations. Requirements B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in motorsports, aerospace, or automotive manufacturing. Minimum 3 years of experience in an engineering leadership or supervisory role. Demonstrated proficiency with CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Catia V5, Unigraphics, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD; experience with Driveworks preferred. Working knowledge of GD&T, blueprint/print reading, CAM software, and advanced manufacturing practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with ERP systems. Familiarity with quality management system requirements and experience supporting internal and external quality audits. Proven troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, process improvement, and project management skills. Ability to develop and manage departmental budgets and capital investment proposals. Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, including the ability to interface directly with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. Strong ability to adapt to new situations and changing priorities in a motorsports focused manufacturing environment. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Supervisory responsibilities Ability to lead others, coach, and mentor the team for professional growth and development. Maintain staff by interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees. Set department objectives, assign projects, and evaluate the team's work for content and conformance with customer and company requirements. Schedule and lead regular meetings with direct reports to review engineering performance. Accountability for mentoring, developing, and coaching staff on meeting or exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives, providing leadership to staff and ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department-level initiatives, including defining performance goals and targets.
