Type:

full-time Position Summary The Planner is a key project support role responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of comprehensive planning activities across complex industrial, commercial construction, turnaround, and maintenance projects. This position ensures that all planning efforts including resource allocation, milestone tracking, risk management, and progress reporting are aligned with project goals, timelines, and client expectations. Reporting to the project manager, construction manager, or senior leadership, the Planner works closely with engineering, procurement, field execution teams, and subcontractors to integrate project scopes, monitor progress, and support schedules as needed. This position is responsible for high-level planning, schedule comprehension, critical path analysis, and reporting to ensure project alignment and transparency. The Planner plays a critical role in identifying scheduling conflicts, assessing risks, coordinating change management, and supporting timely decision-making. This position demands strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, along with proficiency in scheduling software and a deep understanding of construction workflows to ensure planning activities support project delivery and performance standards.

Responsibilities:

Project Execution Review and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and isometric drawings. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, construction leads, and subcontractors to gather scope, timeline, and resource information for accurate planning. Support project planning, scheduling, and execution activities. Integrate engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities into a coordinated project schedule that reflects project progress and dependencies. Prepare and maintain work packages, installation plans, look-ahead plans, and technical documentation. Monitor project execution and identify potential schedule, resource, or cost impacts. Assess the impacts of change orders, scope modifications, RFIs, field change orders, technical clarifications, and unforeseen delays; revise plans and communicate adjustments as needed. Coordinate engineering deliverables and field execution activities. Complete special projects and other duties assigned within the scope of the role. Field Support Provide planning and field engineering support during project activities. Conduct field walkdowns and verify scope completeness, sequencing, access requirements, and constructability. Assisting craft supervision and construction leads in resolving technical, planning, scheduling, and constructability issues. Coordinate planning requirements and field activities with subcontractors, vendors, and client representatives. Support turnover, commissioning, project closeout, and related field documentation activities. Promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on safe execution, performance, and professional development. Project Controls Assist with schedule development, maintenance, updates, and recovery planning. Utilize planning and scheduling software to produce accurate, detailed, and visually effective project plans and reports. Track quantities, productivity, manpower, resources, and project progress against the approved schedule. Identify schedule variances, conflicts, and risks, and recommend corrective or recovery actions to maintain alignment with project scope and deadlines. Support project forecasting, cost reporting, and evaluation of schedule and cost impacts. Prepare weekly and monthly project status reports for project leadership and client review. Present planning and schedule updates during progress meetings and provide regular updates to the Project Manager. Monitor procurement status, fabrication progress, and material deliveries for potential impacts to field execution. Quality & Documentation Maintain complete and accurate planning records, including schedule baselines, updates, logic ties, progress data, reports, logs, and supporting documentation for audits and project closeout. Support QA/QC inspections and associated documentation requirements. Ensure planning processes and deliverables comply with company policies, client contract requirements, applicable industry codes and standards, and recognized best practices. Manage drawing revisions and support document control processes to ensure current information is available to project personnel. Prepare and coordinate turnover packages and closeout documentation.

Essential Job Functions:

Must be able to utilize a phone and computer, requiring sufficient digital manipulation skills to utilize a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and numerous tools. Must be able to read and understand P&ID's and isometric drawings Familiarity with boiler codes, safety regulations, and pressure vessel standards (e.g., ASME, API, or local equivalents). Must be willing to comply with UPSIS Safety Policy and/or any related

OSHA/ANSI

standard regarding proper wearing of PPE, safe work practices, etc. Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude. Must be able to comply with UPSIS Respirator and Confined Spaces policies. Must be willing to work in confined spaces where movement may be restrictive. Must be able to select proper equipment for any given job, with knowledge of Safe and Proper Equipment setup. Must be willing to work for extended hours and willing to work over their scheduled shift, if required. Able to work days or nights. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle. Must be physically mobile and able to navigate construction, manufacturing, and office environments. Able to read, write, understand, and speak the English language fluently. Ability to maintain a clear, understandable voice, communicating vital business information to internal/external contacts.

Education and Experience :

Minimum High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent with 10 years of experience. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of planning and scheduling experience in industrial, commercial, or heavy construction environments (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or infrastructure projects). Proficient in understanding project scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent tools. Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, including engineering, procurement, and field execution. Knowledge of project lifecycle phases, construction sequencing, and field execution strategies. Strong understanding of change management, schedule risk assessment, and delay impact analysis. Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. Experience working in environments requiring strict compliance with safety, quality, and client specifications. Familiarity with project documentation, scheduling support, procurement processes, and expense tracking. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities independently. Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Valid driver's license and insurable driving record. OSHA 30 Certification is desired but not required. Must be able to obtain TWIC Card if required by client. Knowledge of the construction industry and documentation. Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.

Work Environment:

This is a field-based position that necessitates regular travel to and through active construction sites in various outdoor conditions, including extreme weather, uneven terrain, elevated work areas, and environments where chemicals and flammable materials are present. Travel may be required up to 100% of the time, depending on business needs. Work environments include office settings, field locations, and manufacturing, chemical, or refining facilities, which may involve exposure to loud noise, hazardous substances, temperature extremes, and confined spaces. Must be able to lift, carry, and manipulate objects weighing at least 45 pounds on a consistent basis. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely navigate stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and uneven surfaces. Must have clear and accurate vision and hearing to safely perform tasks and communicate effectively. Must possess sufficient physical dexterity to bend, stoop, reach, and handle tools, materials, and equipment regularly. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods as required by the task or work environment.
