About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Tooling Manager to lead the design, manufacturing, and daily operations of a high-performing tooling department within a growing industrial manufacturing organization. This leadership role is responsible for managing tooling projects from concept through production while overseeing a skilled team of engineers, machinists, and technical personnel. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership abilities and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment focused on quality, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop a team of tooling engineers, machinists, pattern makers, and layout personnel. Manage tooling projects from quotation through design, manufacturing, assembly, and final delivery while ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget. Collaborate with customers, sales, engineering, purchasing, and production to develop tooling solutions that meet quality and delivery expectations. Oversee the design and construction of tooling, molds, fixtures, core boxes, and related manufacturing equipment. Direct CNC machining, assembly, finishing, and polishing operations while balancing workloads and maximizing departmental efficiency. Ensure tooling quality through dimensional inspections, laser scanning, and verification processes. Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing capabilities by implementing new technologies, automation, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing solutions. Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital equipment utilization, and resource planning. Promote workplace organization, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives through Lean manufacturing and 6S principles. Mentor employees by providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in tooling engineering, tool design, pattern making, mold manufacturing, or a related manufacturing environment. Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing technical or manufacturing teams. Experience creating and modifying 3D CAD models from engineering drawings. Knowledge of CNC programming, machining processes, and manufacturing methods for precision tooling. Understanding of tooling design principles including shrink allowances, draft angles, offsets, parting lines, and dimensional tolerances. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.
