Job Title:
Environmental Engineer Job Description This Environmental Engineer role focuses on designing and supporting civil and environmental engineering projects, including soil and groundwater remediation, stormwater management systems, and site development. You will conduct environmental site assessments, prepare technical reports and engineering calculations, and assist with permitting and regulatory compliance. The position offers a balanced mix of office and field work and provides the opportunity to work on diverse projects that positively impact clients and communities while expanding your technical expertise in remediation, brownfield redevelopment, site development, permitting, and construction management. Responsibilities Design and support civil and environmental engineering projects, including soil and groundwater remediation, stormwater management systems, land development, and site development. Conduct environmental site assessments and evaluations to support project planning, design, and remediation strategies. Prepare clear and detailed technical reports, engineering calculations, project documentation, and permit applications. Utilize engineering software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat, to produce drawings, analyses, and documentation. Coordinate closely with project managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout all phases of project execution. Assist with environmental permitting activities and prepare regulatory compliance reports and related documentation. Perform site visits and field observations as required to support design, remediation, soil sampling, and environmental compliance activities. Support environmental compliance efforts by helping to interpret regulations and apply them to project designs and documentation. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions that meet project goals. Maintain accurate records of field activities, observations, and data collection to support project reporting and decision-making. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering field. Minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant civil or environmental engineering experience is preferred. Experience with environmental science and environmental engineering principles applied to remediation, stormwater, and site development projects. Proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D for design and drafting. Experience using GIS tools for mapping and spatial analysis. Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications for analysis, documentation, and reporting. Ability to create, edit, and manage documents using Adobe Acrobat. Demonstrated reporting and documentation skills, including preparation of technical reports and calculations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal teams and external stakeholders. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Knowledge of civil engineering design concepts related to land and site development. Understanding of remediation practices, soil sampling, and environmental compliance requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is strongly preferred. Experience in brownfield redevelopment projects is beneficial. Familiarity with construction management processes related to civil and environmental projects. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering judgment in the field and office. Interest in professional growth through exposure to remediation, permitting, site development, and construction-related work. Work Environment The role offers a balanced 50/50 split between office and field work. In the office, you will focus on reporting, documentation, engineering calculations, design work, and preparation of technical deliverables using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat. Field work will involve site visits, soil sampling, field observations, and on-site support for remediation, site development, and environmental compliance activities. You will work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment that emphasizes professional development, knowledge sharing, and meaningful project work that supports both clients and local communities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buffalo, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.05 - $43.26/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
