Job Description

Position Summary The Facilities and Grounds Engineer performs skilled technical work to support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, equipment, and campus infrastructure totaling 1 million square feet at Donato Property Management and Donato Foundation sites. This position combines hands-on inspection, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, grounds care, vendor coordination, compliance, emergency response, and capital-project support. The role helps maintain clean, functional, efficient, and welcoming facilities for employees, tenants, program participants, athletes, visitors, and the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facility Operations and Building Systems Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and complete minor repairs on campus buildings, infrastructure, and equipment, including HVAC, boilers, pumps, compressors, motors, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, lighting, building controls, water systems, drains, sewer components, and sump pumps. Use building automation, control, sensor, monitoring, and energy-management systems to support safe, efficient operations. Diagnose failures, perform or supervise routine carpentry, painting, equipment assembly, and general repairs, and determine when licensed or specialty contractors are required. Inspect buildings and grounds regularly; promptly correct, isolate, or report unsafe, damaged, or deteriorating conditions. Keep mechanical rooms, shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, and workspaces clean, secure, safe, and organized. Preventive Maintenance and Asset Management Develop and administer preventive maintenance programs, operating procedures, inspection protocols, and service standards for buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and mechanical systems. Use computerized maintenance, work-order, and building-management systems to prioritize, assign, track, and document work. Maintain accurate asset inventories, warranties, operating logs, service histories, inspection records, maintenance agreements, and required documentation. Create short- and long-range repair and replacement plans based on condition, useful life, risk, cost, reliability, and operational need. Recommend repairs, upgrades, and operating improvements that strengthen safety, efficiency, sustainability, reliability, and long-term asset value. Work Coordination and Grounds Support Coordinate daily maintenance, grounds, and custodial work; communicate priorities and verify assigned work is completed safely, correctly, and on time. Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to maintenance and custodial employees on equipment, procedures, preventive maintenance, and safe work practices. Coordinate with supervisors and operations staff on coverage for routine work, special events, emergencies, and weather response, and communicate work status and unresolved needs. Inspect grounds and exterior assets, including lawns, landscaping, walkways, parking areas, fencing, drainage, irrigation, athletic and recreation areas, and site furnishings; perform or coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed. Vendors, Purchasing, and Capital Projects Coordinate contractors, consultants, inspectors, and specialty providers for maintenance, repair, testing, construction, renovation, tenant improvements, and equipment replacement. Develop or review scopes, proposals, qualifications, pricing, technical specifications, blueprints, schedules, shutdowns, access plans, and operational requirements. Confirm contractor insurance, safety, documentation, and organizational compliance; monitor workmanship, schedule, and project requirements; inspect completed work and follow through on deficiencies. Purchase maintenance parts, tools, equipment, custodial supplies, and operating materials; verify invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and service records while maintaining responsive, cost-effective vendor relationships. Support facility-condition assessments and long-term capital planning in coordination with leadership and affected facility users. Budget, Administration, and Communication Provide technical input for annual operating and capital budgets and track assigned utilities, supplies, contracts, repairs, projects, and other facility expenditures. Prepare cost estimates, reports, maintenance summaries, project updates, and recommendations on major repairs, equipment replacement, energy efficiency, grounds improvements, and long-term needs. Maintain organized records for audits, inspections, insurance reviews, regulatory reporting, and risk-management programs. Communicate planned work, shutdowns, repairs, and facility impacts to staff, tenants, renters, program teams, and other affected users. Safety, Compliance, and Emergency Response Maintain compliance with applicable building codes, fire and life-safety requirements, OSHA standards, ADA requirements, environmental regulations, and organizational policies. Conduct and document facility, equipment, safety, and risk inspections; identify and correct hazards and investigate facility-related incidents, failures, and safety concerns. Train employees in safe work practices, equipment operation, emergency procedures, personal protective equipment, and hazard reporting. Participate in the on-call rotation if needed and respond to alarms, equipment or utility failures, severe weather, and other urgent needs; coordinate snow and ice removal and related weather operations. Programs, Events, and Campus Support Coordinate maintenance support for programs, rentals, tournaments, meetings, community events, and special activities, including space, furniture, and equipment setup or breakdown when needed. Collaborate with operations, programming, administration, security, property management, and event staff and provide responsive, professional service to employees, tenants, contractors, participants, and visitors.
Pay:
$90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
