Position Description The Senior Engineer possess knowledge in all aspects of HVAC, plumbing, can perform building system field surveys, code review and design/layout of plumbing and HVAC systems for commercial applications. This position serves as the Engineer of Record on VHV's largest and most complex design-build projects, ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, and constructability from concept through completion.
Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge and experience in the HVAC and piping trades, including designing HVAC systems from conception. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, professional engineering license, or equivalent skill/knowledge. Has a PE or able to obtain a PE in two years. Ten years of related experience. Code interpretation. Ability to operate Revit/Auto‑CAD preferred. Ability to work on multiple projects, simultaneously. Must consistently utilize superior skills in effective communication and be a team player. Excellent organizational skills are vital.
Essential Functions:
Developing detailed mechanical designs from field input, BOD documents, and GC/owner discussions. Develop steam, chilled water, hot water, plumbing, and other mechanical system designs from conceptual planning through final construction documentation. Review, approve, and assume responsibility for design work produced by Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians, ensuring compliance with company standards, project requirements, and applicable codes. Perform and oversee engineering analyses, including heat loss/gain calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection. Prepare and review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for mechanical and plumbing systems. Provide engineering leadership and technical support during all project phases, including timely responses to RFIs, field challenges, and constructability concerns. Develop accurate and profitable engineering proposals, including scope definition, system concepts, material take-offs, cost estimating, and supporting sales efforts. Review shop drawings and submittals to verify compliance with contract documents, design intent, and project requirements. Schedule, coordinate, and monitor engineering activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards. Mentor, coach, and develop Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians through training, design reviews, and knowledge transfer initiatives. Maintain and promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, drawing quality, drafting standards, and overall departmental performance. Estimate, monitor, and manage engineering and drafting costs while supporting project profitability objectives. Provide engineering expertise and support to all company departments, including operations, project management, sales, and service. Maintain organized project documentation and engineering records in accordance with company procedures and professional standards. Maintain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Vermont and New Hampshire and ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, regulations, standards, and professional practice requirements. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% - 100%) of the workday. Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time. Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction). Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects. Lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist. Wear the proper

safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, and gloves, if visiting a job site.
