Sunflower Therapeutics, PBC is looking to hire an Engineering Technician to assist in the assembly, testing, and maintenance of automated bioprocess equipment. This position is best suited for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience within a professional engineering environment. Reporting to the Lead Bioprocess Engineer, the Engineering Technician will support engineering operations at Sunflower Therapeutics and will receive comprehensive training in production workflows, equipment assembly, and system troubleshooting. This role offers a structured opportunity to develop foundational technical skills while contributing to product development, manufacturing and support. As Sunflower grows, the Engineering Technician will contribute to the continuous improvement of Sunflower's automated manufacturing systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assemble custom single-use components by following detailed technical drawings and standard operating procedures Assist engineers in building and testing prototypes of fluid pathways, providing input on the assembly process Conduct routine leak testing, integrity testing, and visual inspections on systems prior to release for use Work with the engineering team to identify hardware issues and assist in the troubleshooting and repair of electromechanical, automated systems Perform basic electronic assembly, cable builds, and testing on incoming electronic components Manage inventory levels, organize kitting for production, and maintain accurate logs for spare parts, tools, and components Follow established testing protocols to test sub-assemblies and integrated systems, record results accurately, and report any deviations Interpret technical documentation; update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and test reports Support lab workflows by assisting with sample handling, operational tasks, and cross-functional team projects as needed
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma, technical certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience 0-2+ years of hands-on technical experience in an engineering, manufacturing, R D, field service, or lab environment (relevant academic work/hands-on training considered) Hands-on experience with basic electronic assembly, cable/harness builds, point-to-point wiring, and standard diagnostic/hand tools (e.g., multimeters, torque drivers) Foundational knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles, including fitting tolerances, torque requirements, circuit continuity, and fluidic pathways Ability to read and follow mechanical layouts, P&IDs, electrical schematics, assembly guides, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions (WIs) Strong attention to detail High coachability, clear verbal/written communication, and an eagerness to learn automated bioprocess workflows in a fast-paced team environment Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and precision tool handling Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 50 lbs Expected hours: 40.0 per week
